I agree with that demons souls was very easy, but the game was otherwise pretty awesome.

Truely atmospheric in an oppressive environment, and getting summoned by random strangers as a blue phantom allowed me to have some interesting adventures with complete strangers. And once I made someone go wtf while playing as a black phantom helping him (just to see a reaction). Unfortunately as a European playing the American version, it meant I didn't get to meet as many players as I would probably have gotten to meet otherwise.

Sigh at the word overrated, which is ironically the most overrated thing of all time.

Nice score, but I am wondering, I havent picked up a minigame collection in ages (not even resort) and I am thinking if I maybe should pick this up.

Edit: Really got to improve my posting speed.

why would i care if he read it and was offended? i have been a member of the gamespot community since long before it was even gamespot.... and merely videogames.com. all i have seen is this website go down the crapper year after year, with reviewers that intentionally inflate or deflate scores just to get attention, news that is incorrect or misrepresented, and gamespot staffers that cant even be bothered to crosscheck their facts with their OWN news stories before posting incorrect information.

i have read every review that Kevin V has posted on this website, and while they are well written, the scores are rarely consistent with the metacritic consensus. he nitpicks certain games that are real gems, and gives games that are generic and trivial complete passes for the same problems.

the review process here on gamespot is, IN MY OPINION, in complete shambles. ever since they went away from the scoring system to this BS "reward" system, as well as taking away incremental scoring (8.1,8.2, 8.3....) and went with a .5 system, scores just cannot be trusted. it is too easy for reviewers to downgrade a game a full point when the problem may only deserve a .6 deduction.... thus a game receives a 7.0 instead of a 7.4 or something of the sort.

gametrailers is pretty much the ONLY website that has "fairly" reliable reviews anymore, and even their record is not spotless. to me, it is a shame that gamespot has become merely a website to check release dates and catch trailers, and not a website that can be trusted for its content and integrity.

Why you shouldn't offend him, because of several reasons some more obvious than others. For instance, there forums have been known to be rather strict, not as strict as gamefaqs though. Second, it is just not very nice.

He just have different opinion I stated just as well as you did that neither of us agree with the scores and we both said that the reviews are well written. I was very disappointed in Civ 5 yet Kevin gave it a 9 with the video review being nothing but praise. He also stated Demons Souls was very hard, and I died like 4 times (one of them being forced) whoopee do. With that said, his score on FF14 seems right, I haven't played it but all I have heard from people whining about how the game sucks, naturally it is a new MMO, so it is not going to be as good as some who have been in there for years. Further proof that the majority seem to hate it is the user reviews, on Amazon for instance the game has a rating of 2/5 which matches Kevin's rating perfectly. On gamespot's system wars there was a thread of how the game flopped and it reached over 300 posts, with nearly everyone especially people who played it said it was pretty terrible.

The review process in Gamespot is in a complete mess atm, but so are 99% of all review sources out there. Selling and advertising is too big too miss nowadays. My advice is to find a reviewer you generally agree with and stick with his opinion, and do research about games. If I had gone for reviews only, I would never have played Mount and Blade, EvE online or Mirrors Edge.

It must be just your classmates then, but if you are offended about their ignorance then prove them wrong.

Quotes or it never happened. Seriously, "PC can't do HD." I doubt anybody has ever said that. :|

Lionheart08

I have bad news for you, someone ACTUALLY said that :? There was an old very sarcastic thread here named Facts that had a lot of things listed, basically a summary of all sorts of stupidity across this board.

There are some very ignorant people out there, but that does not mean we should stereotype all console gamers as being ignorant.

Plenty of modern MMOs are designed around the philosophy of being able to reach max level solo. WAR, EQ2, WoW, A lot of Korean MMOs out there, Technically EvE online although that game doesnt have levels, AoC are some examples I can think of. You might wanna try FF14 but just like every other new MMO that comes out, I would recommend to give it a few more months in the oven.

Roland, was the Kevin insulting really necessary? Kevin's writing is great and even though I disagree with him almost all the time, a good writer is still a good writer and he is just as entitled to his opinion as you are to yours. You may not like him but don't insult him over the boards, he might read it and be offended. Despite disagreeing with him in a lot of reviews, his actual posting history on these boards (and on Gamefaqs) have been absolutely golden, where he once wrote a long description on what a review is. I cant find it anymore and I salvaged what I remember from that post and added some of my own words to write a blog on what a review is.

I finished it in one sitting in slightly less than 1 and a half hours, game essentially had me glued to the monitor while I was playing. We need more puzzle games especially of this quality.

Level ups is the main reason I avoid modern multiplayer games like the plague. Playtime should not determine which weapons a player can and cannot use and perks are even worse. Back in the days when I played a lot of multiplayer anyone could use any weapon they wanted to no matter how long they have played the game, back in the days of CS, Quake and Doom. Instead these greenhorns got destroyed because of their lack of skill.

League of Legends have the biggest problems with this where highly leveled players not only get access to better champions, but attack 15% faster, have at least 100 more health, 7% dodge, spells do more damage. Just ugh, why cant my friends play Heroes of newerth instead?

And I have heard the new Red Orchestra will have level ups as well in addition to hero players who gain access to more weapons (I don't know if these will be better or not). Either way, the more of this awful level up system in multiplayer games we get rid off the better. The fun in multiplayer should be to compete against other players face opponents with a brain, not to level up some virtual ego.

"I like both Bethesda & Obsidian. :O"

Exactly! That is my point!

I don't know why it must always be a "Dev A" vs. "Dev B" thing?! Obsidian and Bethesda both has their strenghts as well as weaknesses, rather let us hope that these 2 RPG Developent Giants work well together and built on their collective strenghts! I don't know why gamers always have to fight about everything? Especially PC Gamers...we seem to be a dying breed.

MindlessTeef

I like Obsidian, and am mainly indifferent towards Bethesda. I find their games released this gen to be generally uninteresting but with mods they can be a truckload of fun. Either way I am glad Obsidian is developing with this Bethesda as a publisher, that way it will probably get more polish and mass appeal. Let them both help eachother out. What you say is true, Beth covers up for Obsidians weaknesses and Obsidian cover up Beths weaknesses resulting in a win for all.

It is not dumbed down as much as lacking some features compared to Civ 4, but of course, Civ 4 had a lot more time to have the metagame blooming up and 2 expansions in addition to several updates. Removal of religion was a great thing though, but I don't feel the same about civics and corporations (which I hope will be readded as soon as possible).

I personally prefer civ 4 and gave civ 5 a 6.5 but I can see the game blooming up into something awesome if we give it more time. First of all make the AI smarter, I have conquered several nations without losing a single unit, using the same tactics that got me single tactics star out of 5 in some strategy rpgs.
