1.DS1

2. Demons, would be 1 if you could skip cutscenes

3.DS2/BB, bloodborne could've been #1 if not for the complete lack of build variety.

4. Piece of turd. Ahem, I mean ds3. Dark Souls 3 is the videogame Star wars 7

I'm a dev and I can unequivocally say games have gotten worse. You can draw a direct parallel to the music industry and over commercialization resulting in streamlined workflows and recycled assets that directly contradicts the artistic and creative process.

When faced with limited technology and infinite freedom devs were forced to innovate the software, now the opposite happens where the expanding hardware and shrinking freedom yields less creativity. Each iteration is a slightly upscaled recycled version of the last.

Wrong. I'm a videogame dev creating state of the art games at 1080p, the highest resolution games are capped by technology and are limited in gameplay possibilities. But way to have a clue what you're talking about.

I'm ok with 640x480 wireframe as long as it's fun.

The obsession with resolution boggles my mind.

@mark1974: I'm a video game dev, and I'm eventually going to make my own console so no, I tell you how it is not the other way around.

The majority of todays devs are lazy asshats that recycle assets. Battlefield is the worst for this, they have made millions with minimal work. Their coding is as lazy as humanly possible and they obviously only care about money.

Games should be revolutionary, ie revolutionary software, and hardware should be an afterthought. Peripherals and gimmicks do everything but move software forward

The Super Nintendo is still better than most consoles and the ps2 is still king. Consoles went to crap when peripherals, online media, dlc and cheap components became a thing.

The ps4 controller is the cheapest flimsiest piece of crap, WiiU is all gimmick no game. How hard is it to design a console you sit down with a good controller and just play games? Somewhere along the line the game industry started pushing quantity over quality which is why games from 10+ years ago are substantially more playable than the garbage nowadays. Games are meant to be about simple peripherals and imaginative fun gameplay but it's the complete opposite of that. Goodbye Nintendo, I was a fan for 15 years and you lost me for good. Same with Sony. The only console I have yet to purchase is an Xbox and my hopes are dirtass low for that.

@mr_huggles_dog: yup, I played the game for 3 hours and put it down in boredom. Nothing innovative nothing fun to it for me. Base building and power armor were not what the game needed whatsoever. The game should have been immersive survivalism with branching storylines... like in New Vegas.

@Litchie: not even close, DS3 tried to blend elements from Bloodborne and failed miserably. I didn't die once in DS1 or DS2 from getting stabbed through the stomach, in DS3 its pretty much the only way I died.

The gap between pc and console widens everyday. The only one worth anything is Nintendo because they have what's called pride in their work, the others are greedy assholes.
