[QUOTE="hazuki87"]How can you think GS is still legit if just recently a reviewer was fired by reviewing an advertisers game unfavorably. That completely and utterly makes all further (and maybe some past) reviews suspect seeing as how reviewers are now aware that they can and will be fired if they do the same thing. You seem to miss the point here. I dont see whats so hard to understand.BearEatsMan

Did you read the blogs? All the other reviewers know what people are thinking, and it's tearing them apart.

The past reviews are fine. Jeff made sure of that.

CNET fired Jeff BECAUSE he made sure that all reviews were honest. With Jeff out of the way, CNET can now encourage the reviewers (under threat of dismisal) to write better reviews for GameSpot advertisers. Everyone used to claim it happened... but it IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING right in front of our eyes.

I for one, am going to revolt until they ban me and my IP. I am LEVEL 32. I have been visiting this site for many years, and I find it absolutely disgusting. They have been causght red-handed taking money and influence in exchange for dishonest reviews. Even worse, they fired the most honest guy with any power left at GameSpot.

My account is cancelled. Everyone should do the same. I cannot believe how little outrage their is when the best gaming website on the internet just became the biggest joke in journalism. My condolences to the honest editors that have been entertaining us for years. Your beautiful jobs must have just turned very ugly.

If you really want to send GameSpot a message that firing HONEST people so that the website can become DISHONEST is not acceptable to gamers, then call a general boycott on ANY MAIN PAGE ADVERTISER.

Currently that advertiser is Mountain Dew. ---- BOYCOTT MOUNTAIN DEW -----

If you are sickened by the corruption of this once amazing website, then please post this on any forum as many times as you can. Together we will get the attention of the CNET suits. Let us take aim at the only thing they care about: Their wallets.

MODS: You are going to have to decide which side you are on. Are you a tool for the suits that will do their bidding to squash this resistance? Or you a gamer that will stand up for honesty, integrity, and all the editors at GameSpot that have given us so many years of great entertainment. My sympathy to the entire GameSpot staff. Thank you for everything. Down with the lying suits.

[QUOTE="Nemme"]Are you implying that because it happend to 1 review, it happens with every single one of them?-Serpahim-

I think what he is implying is that If it happened to one review, what's to say i couldnt have happened to others? Or it wont become a trend?

Exactly. Everyone did not agree with Jeff's reviews, but he FORCED honesty by not letting the editorial staff take ANY gifts, games, bribes, or any other payment beofre reviewing a game. Jeff was the last person with power at GameSpot that kept HONESTY AND INTEGRITY at the website. CNET fired him for it.

When the suit in charge of GameSpot says that big games with big advertisers need "special attention" and they fire the one person who was ADAMENT about giving honest reviews despite the advertising dollars for the game, then GameSpot reviews can NO LONGER be trusted. It is over. They were caught red-handed breaking the one big jopurnalistic taboo: Purposely lying to fill pockets. GameSpot now sits in the ranks of The National Enquirer, and other slop publications that will say anything if it brings them more money. Pathetic.

Visiting this website makes me cringe now, and as you can see from my level, I have been a frequent visitor.

I feel sorry for all the editors we know and love that now have to work in a cut-throat enviornment while they are forced to sell-out to advertisers and compromise everything they believed in.

GameSpot has ZERO journalistic integrity and their reviews can no longer be trusted. Jeff was the last person who could stand up for honesty and integrity. The suits won and everyone else loses.

I hope more of you consider dropping your accounts and visiting other sites until GameSpot (corporate) makes a sincere appology and tries to right the "ultimate wrong" a media company can make: Purposely lying to its members tosatisfy sponsers.

.

To all the mods that will lock this and every other thread... you are no longer part of an amazing website, but just a soldier in the corporate wh0re-house doing the bidding of the suits. Why are you still doing it? Don't you have any respect for what GameSpot used to be? It will take ALL of us to revolt if we ever want to see the website we loved back again.

I hate sounding like a conspiracy theorist, but if GameSpot is taking money for reviews, or letting developers or publishers put "fear of reprisal" into the reviewers minds, then we, the gamers, will need to find other websites for information. It is of the utmost importance that we do stick together, and use the internet and all resources to punish ANY GAMING WEBSITE for false reviews based on monetary gain.

I find this to be of such importance that I have cancelled my GameSpot membership based only on the fact that GameSpot has not even denied any wrong-doing. Do they not care about journalistic integrity? Is their reputation not important?

GameSpot is planning on letting this quietly subside, but it is CRITICAL that we remember this and take appropriate action if GameSpot does not resolve their integrity issue. I have done my part by sending them a -$50 a year message. If they convince me that they are not guilty of corrupt journalistic practices, I may reconsider... but the message was sent to them TODAY. I would hope this is as important to the rest of the gamers here and that they would consider sending whatever message to GameSpot that is appropriate.

From news articles I have read, this was deliberate journalistic corruption and the CNET people in charge have asked reviewers to review "AAA" games higher. What they don't understand is that an AAA game is not based on budget or advertising dollars. It is based on quality and fun alone. If CNET wants to run GameSpot into the ground, we can help them by responding accordingly. Whether that is dropping a membership, or boycotting advertisers (boycotting a GameSpot advertised game for its opening week is a powerful tool... trust me).

This literally sickens me. Despite all the review hubalub that happens in System Wars... this is the one fear that seems to have absolutely come true: GameSpot is faking reviews for cash.

"PS3 owners don't buy EA games = PS3 owners don't buy games"?

I don't own any EA games for obvious reasons,but I own8 PS3 games.

How does that work?

Liquid-GEAR

To each his own... but I am going to have a blast with the next Burnout game. Too bad you won't enjoy it because of some misplaced corporate principal.

[QUOTE="tccavey2"]

Actually Microsoft put gaming online, so I think they have a pretty large fan base right now. Waay too large just to give up withink 5 years

Hitamaru-homia

Rember they haven't made one red penny. Microsoft won't fund it still. I mean they losing money, they didn't come here to make hugs with their fanbase.

It's called a "long-term investment."

It's nearly impossible to jump into any kind of high-tech market and profit immediately - especial the tricky video game market. But... expect MS to post profits in their console division within the next year. They would have profited already had they not spent a billion on the warranty extension.

You must remember that it is not only about video games, but being an entertainment hub in the living room. The Xbox introduced MS console gaming. The 360 introduced the next level of gaming and other entertainment features, including video on demand, streaming media, etc. The next step is IPTV, and so on. Sony has the same plan. Video game consoles are just the best way to get other entertainment features into homes, as they have all the same equipment needed and us gamers buy them first-and-foremost for the games.

This game rocks.

It is an amazing blend of strategy, puzzle, and quite-extensive RPG elements. If you like any of those genres, you will like this game. If you love all three genres, you will play this game for dozens of hours. Not bad for $15.

Great!! I love shoot-em-ups!

But I also love all the other genres as well, and fortunately, the 360 has EVERY genre available. There are 150 Xbox 360 games rated GOOD or better, and about 70 rated GREAT or better. You really think those are all FPS and TPS?

MS is still losing TONS of money on the 360 and lowering the price any further will SEVERLY HURT Microsoft's gaming division.

hiho24

Well, lets do some thinking and math, i know it can be hard for some of you do don't do that much.

PS3 = $500 and Blue Ray = $1000 so.... that comes out to -$500 with 1 peace of equipment, not to mention the rest of the machine. So if Sony lowers the price they'll lose more money.

Yay math and common sense!

eh... no. Sony isnt losing 500 dollars on each console sold...

When it was first released they were losing around $400 per console sold. I am sure they are less expensive to produce now, especially with the removal of the PS2 chip.
