The amount of bandwidth is changing. By 2020 we'll have 5G LTE and right now 1Gig internet is becoming the top end standard.
Physical media is the past. Its not sustainable on the environment.
As far as the money angle goes, the actual cost of the Xbox model is cheaper than buying the console.
Not owning things can suck, but the corporate overlords have made it so the sharing/service/subcription economy will pretty much be the future if you arent rich. As far as games go you dont really own them anyway even if you buy a disk. Thats what all the EULA stuff is.
@i_p_daily: theres nothing from stopping you from buying games on gamepass. for me gamepass is more about playing games that I wouldnt buy normally or games that I would play through once and never play again that arent worth full price. You also get a discount on the price if you have a gamepass sub and gamepass is gameshare compatible so you dont have to buy games twice if you share with another person.
This is massively beneficial for me since basically I buy all my sisters' kids games.
Sony gains nothing by doing cross platform gaming. Meanwhile the low install base of xbox and switch needs all the gamers in all platforms to be relevant.
Same logic fail the suits at Sony are using. They apparently dont realize a bunch of their consumers actually own other consoles as well.

thats an 8 month sub for $31. Not bad. Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Crackdown 3 for basically $3.80 a month.
edit: Just found out that the codes stack so you can actually buy say two and get a year or more for half price! Not bad.

2020 is years away and the new console is only rumor at this point. If MS is as smart as I think they are they will let the PS5 drop first to make sure their next console is better to not repeat what happened at the beginning of this gen.
Get a cheap midranged 4K tv if you dont have one like a TCL or Vizio M series for $500ish to go with it and it will be extra worth it.
Just got my code and wasnt expecting it. Game's not released yet but it gives you a free pre-order of the game if you watched the Xbox Briefing on Mixer or the inside Xbox E3 presser.
If MS is smart they’ll let Sony bring out the PS5 first so they won’t have a repeat of the beginning of this gen. And if Sony is smart they’ll extend this gen as long as possible.
