Project Scarlet
I hope they pick a better name for their box this time. Also I understand Project Scorpios name(released in early November, Scorpio on a horoscope). Wonder what the Scarlett means?

Maybe MS will get Scarlett Johansson as a spoke person? lol
I find it funny. One camp says that MS does not want to give the power advantage to Sony, but others think that MS will want a one-year instlled userbase advantage. The only way to have your cake and eat it too is to make a more expensive console at launch.
Scarlet could very well mean that MS is willing to go into the red on hardware to leverage a market advantage. A future investment in their services model, much like what Sony did with the PS3 to win the disc format war.
So is this a next gen xbox or a nother BoneX?
"Next gen" is a redundant term now... especially for Xbox. It'll be a more powerful console than what we have now, that is 100% backwards compatible. I doubt it'll have the name Xbox One in it though.
And yes, I think 2020 at the earliest.
I feel they are definitely taking a risk if they plan on launching in 2020; potentially months or weeks apart if Playstation 5 also launches in 2020? Might leave a bad taste though for some who just bought the Xbox One X though by pushing hardware faster than the usual console cycle; even with the mid-gen upgrade.
Guess this gives the studio acquisitions ample time to start working on new titles for the console at launch.
EDIT: I read on Reddit that Playground Game is working an open RPG but that it's taking inspiration from Fable?

So next year E3 we will be shown concept of power and features.
Well, that explains the huge price drop it has now.
If MS is smart they’ll let Sony bring out the PS5 first so they won’t have a repeat of the beginning of this gen. And if Sony is smart they’ll extend this gen as long as possible.
Sony said PS4 has 3 more years. Seems MS is trying to jump the gun this time and try and do a 360 gen on them.

Maybe we'll get a "teaser" like we did for Project Scorpio... but who knows. Don't really want to think about new consoles yet. Feels too soon.

Same here. When they come, they come.
I feel sorry for the people who bought an x.
Same, it was an utter waste of money. By the time they are supposed to get games that take advantage of the hardware the new gen would have already arrived.

Don't. It's a great console that I don't regret buying for a second. And most owners would back me up, I'm sure.
Of these consoles are launching in 2020, that means the majority of those 1st party games shown at E3 aren’t launching before that. Remember, we didn’t get dates on the majority of the Sony stuff. And Halo Infinite and those newly acquired studios are probably going next gen as well. After February 2019, the game drought is gonna be painful

Whatever makes you feel better about the fact that TLOU2 graphics completely shits on PC Graphics
@Shewgenja: unlike Sony. Microsoft can stay in the red for years. Their investment in services can offset any losses in hardware. Something Sony simply cannot do
@quadknight: no Generations means that we won’t have hard breaks in software compatibility. Microsoft approach Is similar to a smartphone model. Which is fine.
But lets be honest traditional generations is dead.

Yeah, Jaguar will be relevant til the Year 3,000.

Actually, I read on Reddit that Halo Infinite would be on current gen consoles so that would only mean that it'll be compatible with the Scarlet since Microsoft has stated they will fully support BC moving forward.

I see MS competing in power again, solely because of the botched Kinect tie-in. I don't see the disparity being as large next-gen, which I like. That being said, they could seriously screw up, because Scarlet is rumoured to be an array of hardware. Probably tying W10 tablets/PC/Xbox/phone tighter together, but you never know.

Depends on what they meant by "forward compatibility" too. Just like a PC game can run on a variety of hardware that could mean that the current x would be like the minimum requirements and scarlett the recommended. All games continue to work on new systems, each system gets 3 years as top dog and 3 years as the value system. Refine rather than rebuild your architecture every gen.
Not the base Bone. God it's going to be a mess.
Top will say works with Bonex, 360 and new Bone but not standard Bone.
I don't see that transpiring. PC gaming has that functionality of older hardware running newer games and a some games that were made for Xbox One and PS4 runs on the Switch. So, not I am not particularly concern. The jump is not going to be that great because it can't.
This is what I am fully expecting. No need to feel sorry for those who purchase an Xbox One X though as they’ll still be able to play the games and can upgrade to the new console whenever they feel like they want too. Same with the base Xbox One users.

That... Is a genuinely good idea. Hardware doesn't stagnate as hard, but a value option is always available. They just need to get into the cycle, and this mid-gen refresh could have been that jarring start. None of this stupid Cell processor shit, and stick to compatible hardware.
@lundy86_4: I'll go a step further. When you log in with your windows pc, you have access to content creation tools for your games. You can then make that content available to everyone on xbl.
We know MS are moving heavily in a unified direction for software (which is the right move). Hell, output hardware manufacturing to anybody (within parameters) and stipulate strict software/hardware regulations. I do think Steam Machines were on the right path, but the whole framework just fell apart and was a mite too early. Software is where the money is... As we know the manufacturers (Sony/MS and not Ninty) oft use the Razer-Blade model. Sell hardware at a loss and make money on software royalties and service subscriptions.
