It's on a case by case basis. As long as the vanilla product has enough content for it's original price tag. Some games got it right, Borderlands 2 comes to mind. Games like Titanfall shipped with so little to play on that the developers had to make the season pass free after a year just to keep the player base healthy.

There does seem to be a shift for season pass and dlc from vital pieces like maps and guns and vehicles to aesthetic items like skins and models. I feel this makes more sense in the long run. It does not fragment your player base and the players that likes to buy skin, tend to buy plenty.

@ghosts4ever: To be fair, this is in no way worthy of the name. However , this is as good as it's going to get. I really don't think games like Raven Shield would cater to this generation's 16 years old twitch cyborgs (No offense).

Still, worth checking out if you want something fresh.

I will just leave this here.

That has nothing to do with the game being Alpha/Beta/Finished.

It's also got nothing to do with the game they shipped. And that's kind of the problem. That thing is 60 bucks. It makes no sense. I was about to buy a copy when i checked some of the reviews, including sterling's show. I got togive it a go, and the game is absolutely unplayable on my rig, wich is quite decent.

And it's got nothing to do, visually, with what Hello Games have been showing us.

The gameplay is a bit simplistic. I'll wait for a sale if they patch the issues , like i did Spore

Oh well.

@beardmad: The only similarities this game has to a game like overwatch are the way the game handle the players loadouts. You have to choose an "Operator", wich is basically a pre-determined loadout with a special piece of equipment that acts much like a Skillset in games like League of Legends. These operators have a distinct background, like a country of origin, a name and physical appearance. Aside from that it's the basic hostage / bomb scenario of old.

It does seem to make people communicate and plan ahead of a round. I was surprised at first.

I snagged it for a few bucks and have been enjoying it since may. If you can find a deal cheap enough, i recommend you give it a shot. I have, like you, an extensive Counter-Strike background. It's not quite a Rainbow Six game proper, but you might enjoy it.

I'm 44 and have been playing them for quite awhile. I try to play well and improve but I also don't need to be at the top of the leaderboards though to have fun. I try not to sweat the game too much and have fun to. Also I think playing other games as well doesn't burn me out on them.

In a similar situation. I mean, i still enjoy the competish, but whenever i'm pitted against the usual RedBull and Cheetos powered teen Cyborgs, i just chill.

Just picked up Xcom 2 on the cheap! Huge fan of the first and the legacy titles. It's installing as we speak!

Of course to now add this to the following games currently being played :

Farcry 4, DiageaPC, Deus Ex Human Revolution and of course a healthy dose of Rocket League.

At any rate, it is unlikely they will succeed in making this new format a standard, but it's still scary that they are trying.

MS themselves have said they want feedback to fix things. Why accuse them of something without taking into consideration their response?

Honestly, mostly based on their past actions. The way they handled GFWL, leaving many games broken and unplayable when they pulled out. But at any rate, i guess it's okay to cut them some slack and wait to see how they will handle this.

I'm not saying they will do heaps better, but let's wait and see. The GFWL era was a different team I believe.

GFWL had so much potential. If Microsoft can do it right, they have all the ressources to lead in that market. I mean, if EA can turn things around, pretty much anybody else can.

@Pedro: 1. Why would they sabotage the competition by holding Directx hostage? That makes no financial sense.

A: Unless Microsoft is currently getting royalty payment on every sale of games currently using DirectX, it makes sense for Microsoft to move DirectX tech to be exclusive to apps appearing in the Windows Store. Steam takes a huge cut out of every sale. I'm sure you can connect the dots...

2. The new format is an alternative to current executables and its is still up to developer to implement mods or not, not Microsoft. How will games stop existing as software? What you are describing is not any different to how games are currently marketed and sold on other platforms. Are you trying to say that we currently are not encourage to buy DLCs and move on to the next big thing? How is this system make it any worse?

A: I was referring to a comment made by somebody at Epic Games based on the tech. I'm sorry, my technical knowledge isn't ample enough to confirm if it would be up to the devs to add mod support out of the box. I'll just leave you with a bit to read : http://www.pcgamer.com/why-pc-games-should-never-become-universal-apps/

3. How would this system prevent you from playing older games?

A : Again see article : http://www.pcgamer.com/why-pc-games-should-never-become-universal-apps/

4. Its very likely they will succeed with this format and its mainly due to the benefits of having a streamlined option for acquiring software.

A : I wish them the best of luck.

Maybe this ought to be mentioned : As a consumer, i don't care if Microsoft succeeds. What i care about is that little thing we got going on right now, pc gaming going in favor of the consumer. Quantum Break is coming as a Windows Store exclusive. From what i have seen so far of the newest Tomb Raider, the release is limited, and it would appear a lot of those limitations are related to the new format. Now time will tell if i'm wrong, but with the way microsoft handled it's last entrance and exit out of the pc gaming world, expectations aren't super high.
