Remastered version is based on Xbox 360 and PS 3 version from 2011.

Pros:

  • A bit better optimization.
  • Ray traced shadows.
  • Better version of global illumination.
  • Up to 8k textures for objects, especially ground.
  • Weapons self shadowing. Small objects also cast shadows.
  • Higher draw distance for vegetation and few effects.
  • Bokeh depth of field.

Cons:

  • Still mostly suffers from single threading issue.
  • PC remastered version has better controls than console version but they are still inferior to original because they are a bit clunky.
  • No peaking left/right option.
  • No Manual saving. Only checkpoint based saving (discourages experimentation).
  • Level 'Ascension' is missing.
  • No volumetric lighting in a lot of scenes. Dust particles don't appear which makes scene look flat.
  • Lighting doesn't affect look of particles like dust, water splash, smoke etc.
  • Inferior skin shading.
  • Unrealistic art style.
  • Vegetation animation is locked at 30fps. Looks janky.
  • Explosions don't affect vegetation.
  • Physics system is inferior.
  • Motion blur is inferior.
  • Less objects in environment.
  • Snow texture looks flat and unrealistic.
  • Higher resolution limits CPU usage for some reason.
  • Ray traced shadow option causes stuttering.
  • Clouds aren't fully volumetric unlike the original game.
  • Worse lighting placement in levels that take place indoors.
  • Uses Denuvo DRM.

Seems like original PC version remains the definitive way of playing this timeless classic.

Holy sheeet. I guess Playstation peeps can say goodbye to The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Fallout and several other games in the future.

Finally finished Horizon Zero Dawn on PC last night. A great experience it was but not without its issues. First of all, I was greatly impressed by the way they transferred controls onto keyboard mouse. It suffered from no mouse smoothing or acceleration issues that old console ports often used to suffer. So kudos to whoever did programming for PC controls. Optimization overall was OK- ish.

On high settings I got around 45- 50 fps on my mid range PC with occasional stuttering and crashes due to memory leak issues. The game also had some glitches and minor bugs here and there but nothing that couple of patches can't fix. It isn't the best port ever but it ain't the worst port either. It ain't Dark Souls bad or unstable like Nier Automata.

Luckily the game saves quite often so in worst case scenario you only lose around 2 or 3 minutes of data if the game crashes. I really enjoyed the game when it initially came out on PS4 and playing it all over again was a great experience. From what I've heard it sold quite well on steam. Let's hope this encourages Sony to expand its PC based team in the future so they can consider bringing more of these first party games on the platform, and with better optimization.

Mircrosoft Flight Simulator 2020, the graphics king and true next gen game is getting 10s everywhere. That too without several shill websites to boost its score. Now that's super impressive. Flight Sim includes entire world at photorealistic quality and simulates flight schedules and weather conditions based on real life data. Extremely talented Asobo Studio (who also worked on A Plague Tale) has written a beautiful engine and made a breathtaking video game. Kudos to Microsoft for funding it.

Can't wait to try it.

Mine is Garrett. Because he turns his weakness into his strength. That's the most badass thing a man can do to himself. Geralt of Rivia is 2nd favorite.

Raiden was awesome and MGS 2 was ahead of its time. Now every third person interested in modern politics investigates and praises plot of MGS 2. It seemed weird back then. It predicted future quite well.
