Well, according to this statement from a Nintendo rep, an expensive controler might be a problem that none of us have.

Arc2012

What is the point of this when we can only have one tablet controller?

If you have 2 kids, one will be playing. one will be crying.

the wii lineup in the past 2 years had me really jaded.

it would take a bunch of games that i'm really interested in before i go out and buy wii 2.

In an NP interview they explained why they didn't use the Wii Remote/Nunchuk control scheme.

Zophar87

What's their reasoning?

How would you switch from third-person to first-person if you were using the nunchuck?

GabuEx

Hold the Z button to go first person. Release to go back. Or something like that.

[QUOTE="canadianloonie"]Listening to GS, GB, and IGN podcasts, everybody pretty much said that Wiimote+Nunchuk control scheme would've been better. After all the work that was put in the game, I feel it's just stubborness on Team Ninja to not give us this option...really disappointing.JordanElek

The only people who know what the remote and nunchuk scheme feels like are Team Ninja and Nintendo. If it worked better, they would've used it. As it is, I've had absolutely zero issues with the controls, aside from the learning curve (or rather, unlearning curve) in first person. It took several bouts of first-person fighting to get rid of the habits from the Prime games.

Yeah, we don't know how the wiimote and nunchuk scheme feels like. It may be better. It may be worst. But, I'm pretty sure it's not broken to a point where not including it as an option is warranted.

It's a matter of preference I guess. I know many of you prefer playing the game NES style and that is perfectly fine. I'm happy for you guys. But, I know I'm not alone in wanting to play the game with a nunchuk. I just don't understand why Team Ninja wouldn't support both and satisfy both camps.

[QUOTE="Sword-Demon"]

can anyone else see the bone of their left thumb from using that dpad for so long?

I don't understand their reasoning for forcing us to use the NES style control.. it would work just as well with the nunchuck (you could use B to jump [and maybe also have the dodge as B, since i don't think it would work too well with an analog stick], A to shoot, and hold Z to go into 1st person without that horizontal-vertical flip), or the classic controller.

Haziqonfire

If you used a nunchuck, then it wouldn't make much sense for the developers to have you go in first person without the ability to move - and then people would probably play the game as if it's Metroid Prime 4 or something, which is not exactly how it's meant to be played.

Why wouldn't it make sense? Not being to move in first person is a gameplay decision...similar to RE4 when you're aiming and shooting. If I cannot move in first person with a wiimote, I don't expect to move in first person with a wiimote and a nunchuk.

It makes much less sense to not give us the option of playing the game with a nunchuk. Listening to GS, GB, and IGN podcasts, everybody pretty much said that Wiimote+Nunchuk control scheme would've been better. After all the work that was put in the game, I feel it's just stubborness on Team Ninja to not give us this option...really disappointing.

Jeremy didn't really mention anything about the d-pad except that you don't need it for wall jumps.

Given the fast pace nature of the game, d-pad is far from ideal. Take a look at the boss at 2:50-2:55 of the video above. Samus has full 3D movement. I hate to be fighting that thing using the d-pad.

Why people are so obsessed with using the nunchuk is beyond me, its a 2D game, you don't need analog controls for a 2D game. All the analog stick would do, is work like a Dpad. Sepewrath

Because it is not all 2D. There are 3D spaces. Here's what Jeff Gerstmann said on his preview (http://www.giantbomb.com/news/metroid-other-m-hands-on-no-nunchuks-allowed/1887/)...

My time with the demo started with the initial shock of sitting down in front of a TV and seeing that there was nothing hooked up to the Wii Remote. No Nunchuk. No ****c Controller, no MotionPlus... and yeah, no steering wheel, either, thanks for asking. You primarily play Other M by holding the Wii Remote sideways, like an NES controller. This is the part where you start to think "oh, hey, they're making New Super Metroid Bros. Wii" or something like that. But no, the game is fully polygonal and fully rendered. Some areas may look like you're trapped in a side-scroller, but others offer full depth and movement along three axes. The camera will change perspective to give you different views of the action, depending on where you are.

Of course, those also means that you can only really move in eight directions, thanks to the Wii's digital pad, and you don't have direct speed control like you'd have with an analog stick. That really took some getting used to and it's probably the most interesting design decision in the entire game. I say "interesting" because I haven't been able to decide if I like it or not. When was the last time you assumed control of a character in 3D space without an analog stick?Jeff Gerstmann

I would hate controlling Samus with the D-pad. My thumb is already hurting just thinking about it. I want an option for using the nunchuk.

[QUOTE="starwarsjunky"][QUOTE="snowman6251"]Steam is the number one cause of technical difficulties in my house. I'm trying to make my first legit purchase of a not free game in the form of Team Fortress 2. It won't accept the credit card. The first few times it was my fault since my mom got a new card with a new billing address and I was entering the old one. My bad. I asked her about it and fixed it. Now however it won't accept the card and it doesn't specify why so I'm just sitting here waiting for Steam customer service to come and tell me. God damn it steam. All the info is right. Why are you so frustrating? I'm trying to give you money. MONEY! Just take it so I can light people on fire.snowman6251
i had that same problem. also, they REFUSE to talk to you on the phone, so they make you do it through email. they tried to get me to send my card info through EMAIL. HAAAAAAA. you realize how usecure that is?? half the time that isnt even freakin encrypted!!!! i hate their so-called "customer service" (or lack thereof) SOOOO MUCHHHHHHHH!!!!!! /endrage

Yeah my mom called the credit card company. There shouldn't be any problems according to them. That means that something is wrong on Steam's end. Shocking. Steam is such a piece of crap. The idea behind it is great and when it works it works fine but the damn thing is so buggy and prone to crashing, connection fail, and other various problems that it never works properly. I have never done something on Steam without some sort of ridiculous crisis that requires an obnoxious amount of time to work around. With Portal it was downloading really slow. I got to 98%. Steam crashed. Downloaded it again. Could not confirm files or something like that. Downloaded AGAIN. Finally functions. With TF2 on the free play weekend I couldn't successfully download the stupid thing due to horrendous amounts of crashing until right as the free weekend was over. I did not get to play. Now I'm trying to buy the thing and it won't accept a valid credit card with valid info. Steam is such a pain in the ass.

I had a similar problem today. I kept getting a "Your Billing Address doesn't look like it matches up with your current country..." error.

I contacted Steam support via email and it seems like they are doing some IP checks. Here's their (surprisingly quick) response...

"Our records indicate that your purchase was declined due to your current IP address differing from what is on file with your billing information. We have removed the lock on your account - you will now be able to purchase additional subscriptions."

Everything is ok now. I was able to buy the Deus Ex collection. :) So, I suggest contacting them via Email.

Kinect fail incoming, major flaw:

IGN had an article, where they originally wrote this:

"Right now, Kinect only works when you stand. This includes menu navigation. All the cool options to grab a slider and advance through frames of a movie you are watching only work when you are on your feet. Kinect, we've been told, has problems handling your skeletal frame while sitting. The voice commands still work, but every game we've seen and even simple menu navigation have to be done with you out of your seat. That's not exactly how I want to watch my movies. If the focus for Kinect is creating games like Dance Central that naturally would require you to be off your couch, that's great. But I have to say, no one thinks "I am driving a car!" while standing up in their living room."

Which has since been edited to this:

"According to Microsoft, you can play some Kinect games sitting down. It "varies" by experience. However, several developers giving us demos have said the exact opposite. Sometimes the contradiction comes from the same person--one day telling us you have to be standing and then the next saying everything can be done while sitting.

Which is true? We don't know for certain, as we have not had the opportunity to play anything seated. Suffice to say, if you have to stand for every game (or for menu navigation), that's a big problem. This remains a concern until we ourselves can test out Kinect from our rear."

--

Either way, WTF is going on?

Not only does IGN confirm this, so does Kotaku.

Haziqonfire

Sounds really flaky...

Also, what if I'm standing behind my coffee table? Will it still work?
