• Aonuma has been playing Monster Hunter Tri in order to see what aspects most appeal to the audience.

clicketyclick

:o No!! They better not copy Monster Hunter's grinding elements and tedious difficulty. The PSP game was NOT fun.

@canadianloonie

Its very simple, people did not want a Dead Space rail shooter. Now I'm no business expert, but I think the way to make money is to give people what they want not what they don't want. They tried to do it the easy way, probably not Visceral, the order likely came down from EA to do it as a rail shooter to cut cost. Well it did and at the same time it cut revenue. I agree with JordanNintendo's first party titles most often are head and shoulders superior to competitors, what they are missing is the 3rd party because the 3rd party has one an identity crisis and two the refuse to take on Nintendo titles.

Sepewrath

BUT, people don't want a Dead Space with full third person controls either. You might buy it. But, there is a huge contingent that would say "Why should I buy this when I can play a much better version elsewhere? I'm not buying it!". The sales figure will still be the same if not worst.

To me, Visceral's decision to go on-rails is not because of laziness. This is Visceral's attempt to make a BRIDGE title. Dead Space is for hardcore gamers. On-Rails Shooter (Easy to pick up and play) is for the casual gamers. Sounds reasonable, no? Aside from making a Dead Space Mini Game Collection or a Dead Space - Run for Your Life Fitness, I don't see any other better ideas.

The problem is Wii owners only buys first party games. I can guarantee you that if Nintendo made an on-rails shooter of the same quality as Extraction. It will sell like hotcakes.

Nintendo is head and shoulders above Wii's 3rd parties because the great ones know better to not support the system. The few good ones who tries gets burned big time in the process. So, you are left with mediocre ones trying to fill the void.

The real problem is with third parties, not Nintendo, so I don't know why so many people are angry at Nintendo.

JordanElek

I have more sympathy towards third parties because nobody supports them. You make a great game like Extraction. It sold squat. People laugh and say "You deserved it for being lazy!" You look at how much Wii Music and Animal Crossing sell. You see the irony. You cry.

I do like how Nintendo is reaching out to third party developers to co-develop their games. They should do this more. This should get third parties to embrace the Wii more. The continued success of the Wii depends on it. As it stands now, if I'm a third party developer, I'm no longer touching the Wii.

I have to warn you, I'm going through the podcast now with the "paraphrased" points by Gonintendo and I have to say this is the WORST paraphrasing I have ever seen.Like, bordering on complete lies.clicketyclick

I have to agree with you on this one. I was actually angry at IGN after reading the paraphrased points, but after listening to the podcast. It seems like GoNintendo is trying to stir up hate towards IGN.

The Achievement comments for example. They actually mentioned all the bad points about the Achievements system. It's not all about bashing Nintendo. It's actually a good, civil conversation about Achievements.

Well I'm just guessing obviously, but it's an educated one. Nothing says "Look at me! Buy me!" like gold in a wall of white.bob_newman

Lol! That is the exact reason why my brother and I bought the original Legend of Zelda. "Hey! Let's get this. It's Gold. It must be good." Hehehe

The amazing part is that game cartridge itself is also gold. I remember being blown away by it.

Wow! N'Gai Croal speechless?!? He must've seen something truly mind blowing. N'Gai usually talks A LOT! :P

I'm guessing the Titans must be really, really, really, really, really BIG.

This definitely peaked my curiosity.

Wow, I cannot believe you guys are defending Nintendo on this one.

TP was first released as a Wii game. It should be held by that standard. It should be compared to other Wii games, not GC games. Nintendo was trying to pass off a Gamecube game as a Wii game. How is that ok?

Zelda is such a beloved series because of the true care that Nintendo has given to it. We know that each new Zelda game that comes out will set a new standard not only for the series, but for the system that it is in as well. TP didn't have that because it's essentially a GC game. It was a rush port job. The graphics wasn't upgraded. Even the controls wasn't implemented properly and felt tacked on. Have you tried out the IR controls in that game lately?

This is why I want the next Zelda game to push the Wii to its limits in every way possible. It will right all the wrongs that was done in TP.

The graphics didn't bother me that much - but I prefer the Wind Waker art more to Twilight Princess.

Overall, I also found Twilight Princess to be a bore and uninspired.Haziqonfire

Oh ok, I got where you're coming from. I had the same feeling with TP overall.

TP looked like crap?!? O_oBrunoBRS

To me, it is. It's Gamecube quality graphics.

The Wii is capable to doing so much more.

Did you see the texture quality in the game? MP3 puts it to shame.

More realistic? If its more like Twilight Princess, I won't be too happy with the results to be honest.Haziqonfire

Not even if they significantly up the graphics?

One of my main problem with Twilight Princess is that it looks like crap.

But if they pushed Wii's graphical limit with the next one, I would be really happy.

Cel-shaded graphics is no longer a fresh idea.

We just had Spirit Tracks & it seems like every single Wii game coming out as that art style.

I want the next Zelda to be ultra realistic, topple MP3 and set the new standard in Wii graphics.
