Played it. There was a point in the progression that the computer started taking so many cheap shots, though, that I think we took the disc out of the machine and snapped it in half...

... Not a BAD game at all as I recall. But the last-minute missles etc (well-known to the Mario Kart fans) were infuriating...

Recently, I've been wishing that'd I'd played Viewtiful Joe, Beyond Good and Evil, Thief1-3, Eternal Darkness and the Parasite Eve games.

lensflare15

Holy COW, have you been missing out...

"Beyond Good & Evil", and "Eternal Darkness" are MUST-PLAY games in my book.

The "Colony Wars" games are the best space combat you're gonna find on the system.

I decided since the F1 licence was available to more than one company for the 2002 season, that i should see how the games compare. I've already got the EA version, now i've taken delivery of the Atari and Sony takes:

EA games F1, especially from that time period, are pretty bad... The other two can only improve on what EA did in my opinion.

My favorite platformer of all time is "Pandemonium!" for the PS1, which is technically a 2.5D platformer, but I think it qualifies... It uses passwords for finished levels, no saves, but a password is better than nothing at all... And it is phenominally good!!!

[QUOTE="MonkeySpot"]

The three machines I want in my house, before I die, in proper arcade cabs, are -

Time Pilot

d_parker

Not sure if you're aware, but you can get Time Pilot for the PS3 and Vita for $1.49.

On the PS3 it plays thru Home (ugh) and on the Vita by way of the PS Home Arcade.

Playing Time Pilot while laying flat on your back in bed is pretty sweet.

I have home versions, I want the cab, where my knee can rest against it in the accustomed position to get just the right torque on the stick and the wrist action on the button... I put more money & time into "Time Pilot" in the mid 80s that I did into my college education... I KNOW that machine, and I want the REAL thing!

:D

Thanks for the info, though... MOST appreciated!!!

;)

For my own input, I would say "Galaga '88" was a lotta fun, not sure if it ever got a home release, though... Perhaps? (Googles) Oh poop. Turns out it was on the Turbo-Graphix 16...

:(

... Which is SORTA like never getting a home release, as exspensive as that system was at the time.

It was later released in a combo cabinet with "Xevious" and "Mappy", another of my all-time favorite arcade games... The three machines I want in my house, before I die, in proper arcade cabs, are -

Time Pilot

Galaga '88

Mappy

:D

And maybe a nice "Defender" machine...

:P

Great thread idea, TC! Great thread!

Have you ever seen/ played a great arcade game which for whatever reason was never released for any kind of home system? This thread is for talking about such games.

Here are three games for starters:

Ninja Baseball Bat Man: a fantastic beat'em up game for up to four players by Irem Corporation. You play as one out of four selectable ninjas fighting with baseball equipment and beating up all kinds of weird enemies in search of a stolen baseball trophy.

Aurail: an interesting shoot'em up by Westone, the developer of the Wonder Boy series. You control a futuristic tank from two different perspectives. Most levels feature a top-down third-person view, but some levels will let you play from a first-person perspective. As with most shoot'em ups, one hit will kill you, but you can find power-ups to gain energy, and a certain amount of energy can be used to build up to three shields which give you an additional hit each.

Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder : a sequel to Golden Axe, which has no relation to Golden Axe 2 on the Mega Drive/Genesis. Apart from better graphics, it adds many nice little improvements in comparison to the original game.

GaussRiemann

Forgive my asking, but did this come out after "Golden Axe 3", or is it considered this in some regions? Just looking to round out my knowledge of all-things Golden Axe, and I've never heard of "Death Adder" before now... I am truly ignorant, in some catagories... But I DO loves me some "Golden Axe 2", and I really enjoy "GA3".

I've "held back" buying since this gen (my PS3) - This gen was the first where i sat back for about 2 years or so before finally buying... Hardware problem shake-outs, initial price-points, and lack of anything that firmly sits in the "Cannot Live Without It" software department make such a decision fairly easy, in my book... But add to all of that, the Big Brother online and used game questions, and it gives me renewed vigor to keep my wallet closed until there are some things set in stone.

There's just still too much Possible-F.U-to-The-Buyer that's out on the table (or being bandied about behind $ony & M$ doors), for me to preorder a system. At this point, honestly, it's not lookig like I will move on to the new systems along with the herd...

... I've got a ton of PS3 games yet to finish, and all of my other generations of systems which I still love... So buying into this coming gen, I dunno... I think I'd rather take that $500 or so it'd take ot get up and running, and spend it on PS3 titles which will drop in price like a stone once the shiney new systems hit shelves... Or titles for my GameCube that I don't have... Or my OG Xbox, or PS2s, or Dreamcast, or...

... You get the idea.

At least, in buying games for retro systems (with the exception of my PS3, obviously), I get the whole game on-disc, with no need for updates/patches, no online DRM, the ability to lend/trade with friends or outright sell what I don't want to keep in my library... And on, and on...

... The future of console gaming doesn't look all that attractive to me. I know I'm probably in the minority... But I've always been a rebel that way.

Sport and racing Sims for me. The former getting marginal updates yearly trying to imitate something you can watch or play in real life with automated plays due to limited button option. The later die to them being nothing but driving in a straight line. Nascar  without left turns basically.

Yo-SUP

Pardon?

What I think you meant:

"The [latter due] to them (sim-racing) being nothing but driving in a straight line. NASCAR without left turns basically."

So, Sim-Racing games are all drag racing? Explain, please.
