A shopping spree indulged in:

£15 in total for them all. Typically half of them weren't on my list.

Excellent finds, especially for the price! I'm playing through "Soul Reaver" (the first game) right now, and it has held up remarkably well! Never played the second one. "Wolfenstein" is one of the best FPS of that generation, probably in my top-5 of all time.

LOVE the first game (PS1) - I play through it every Summer, sort of a tradition. Not so much, the rest of the lot... And the new one coming has completely lost me, the oversexualizing of female characters is a complete turn-off. I'm not some kind of feminist suck-up, I admire breast physics as much as the next sad & lonely gamer; I just don't think it's a good fit for the series... Any more than Naked Raiden doing cartwheels with his junk flailing around, or "L1 Boob-Ogling". There are many excellent subtexts to the series over the years, but objectification of women has never been one that I admire in the MGS series... It cheapens the other ideas and issues which the series legitimately confronts.

Why would the objectification of women bother you but not the use of child soldiers or the glorification of violence?

Just to piss you off, really...

I've owned an Xbox 360 since 2005 and I am thinking of buying a PS3 for the 1st time. I don't play online much anymore so I cancelled my Xbox Live Gold subscription last year. I want to buy & play GTAV and Splinter Cell Blacklist online but would rather not pay the $60 (in Canada) for an Xbox Live Gold membership but rather put that $60 towards a PS3 console.

So is online multiplayer on the Playstation Network still free? YES.

I think I remember from E3 this year where Sony announced you'll have to upgrade to PSN Plus or some other fee to play online multiplayer on PS4, so will that extend to PS3 gamers anytime soon? NO.

Also, how does PSN multiplayer compare overall to Xbox Live? Depends on the game. No Cross-Game Chat, and stuff like CoD get maps a month after they've been released for XBL.

Does the PS3 come with a mic for online play (thinking of buying the new GTAV PS3 console bundle), or do many people use voice chat online on PSN? Get a decent headset with stereo game-sound, blu-tooth ear bugs are terrible and folks will mute you if they hear too much background noise or TV feedback, which is often a problem with cheap-o ear bugs.

Should I just bite the bullet and pay the $60 for XBL Gold, especially for Splinter Cell? This is the PS3 forum, we don't have a legitimate opinion on such matters. Follow your heart. :)

I've never had any issues with YT app on my console, nor do I have a problem with the search function, or any of the other complaints I've heard about it...

Wow, im surprised by how many actually play on a PS1 still. If they work might as well keep them. I see those sitting at Goodwill, they cant even sell them for $8 apiece! And I see morons on Craigslist trying to get $20+ for theirs. Kinda worthless when any PS2 or PS3 will play those discs.

I like playing PS1 games on the PS3, easier not to have those save cards... But some folks are religious about hardware.

:)

I liked the visualizer that would run when you used the PS1 as a CD player...

Played it. There was a point in the progression that the computer started taking so many cheap shots, though, that I think we took the disc out of the machine and snapped it in half...

... Not a BAD game at all as I recall. But the last-minute missles etc (well-known to the Mario Kart fans) were infuriating...

:D

Jakandsigz

I hear some people threw their controller at the screen because of the impossible tight turn in later levels an the fact even if you look at you have the lead, there's like an invisible wall preventing you from being to far ahead and overlapping.

Yep. It's a programming tactic called "Rubber-Banding"... Often used in racing games so that the competition stays exciting, and/or so that if you get behind, you still have a chance to win... However, JXCR takes it to an extreme, making later races seem like torture. The game one one of a handful that we snapped in half after awhile, during regular gaming nights... Normally, I wouldn't allow such a thing to happen to a game disc, but Jak X deserved such treatement.

Here's one I bring up every time one of these threads gets made, and I'm surprised at how many people have never heard of it, let-alone own a copy -

"Flipnic".

It's off-the-charts cool. If you don't own it, buy it immediately, you won't be sorry!

EDIT: I tried to post a youtube vid of the game, but GS says it contains an obscene or banned word in the link, I guess "qwti7&dws2" is a filthy reference in someone's language or it incites hilarious results in HTML. Just search it yourself. ****ing GS is such bull****.
