Now Playing: Destiny 2 - Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer

At 10 AM PT / 6 PM GMT / 3 AM AEST today Activision and Bungie will host an event for Destiny 2, the eagerly-anticipated sequel to its MMO-like sci-fi shooter. Taking place in Hawthorne, California, the event will feature Bungie developers talking about the title as well as "special guests" making appearances.

Of course, the main draw is the debut of gameplay footage, and you'll be able to see that right here. We'll be hosting the livestream and providing up-to-date news, analysis, and other video coverage during and after the stream. Come back at the specified time and you'll be able to watch the stream through the video below.

The first trailer for Destiny 2 was released on March 30 and it featured returning characters Zavala and Cayde talking about the loss of Earth's Last City. Based on the video, it looks like Bungie will be mixing a little more humor into Destiny this time around.

"Humanity's last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion," Bungie previously said when discussing the sequel. "He has stripped the city's Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee.

"You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity's scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home."

Bungie has also announced Destiny 2's release date alongside special editions of the game. Destiny 2 will have a season pass called the Expansion Pass, which includes "Expansion I and Expansion II, offering brand new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer, and a wealth of new weapons, armor, and gear."

Unlike the first game, Destiny 2 will be available for PC as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Destiny 2 will feature PS4-exclusive content for a limited time until at least Fall 2018. An open beta will be available to everyone sometime this summer, but if you pre-order the game you can play the beta early.

Check out our Everything we know about Destiny 2 feature for more on the game.

No full third-person option? Then Bungie can screw off.

@khanwashere: If they add a full third person option, they should add ass customization option to the character creator.

I'm hoping that they learned from the last one and will make this one cool as F. I will not pre-order though. Will defiantly wait and see how it is received before buying it.... Once burned....

@HAWK9600: Technically, if they put a "2" at the end of the title, that's a little different.

How does a game that failed on so many hyped-up promises get a sequel?

@everson_rm: DON"T EVER go to a casino. Casinos love people like you that just can't step away. I don't know how you guys can play the same mission/strikes whatever over and over and over. After about 10 times I'm done, DONE. But to each their own.

@spartanx169x: That's why I sold mine long ago. Besides having a crap story, it was just the same thing again and again. I am very wary about this next installment. I wanted to like Destiny, but it just relies on grinding and has no substance at all. The second one... I'll keep my eye on it, but until I see reviews and watch some people play there's no way I'd consider buying it, especially at full price.

@everson_rm: Yea. I sunk way, way too much time into trying to get a decent drop so I stopped playing it. Too many other more rewarding games in my backlog.

@everson_rm:

I played the “vanilla” version and while initially I thought it started off with a bang by the end my opinion on the matter had slightly changed. I’m not saying it was a bad game at all, but rather that it felt unfinished or like certain parts were missing.

In terms of the campaign I was pleasantly surprised by the narrative and the lore they had created in this universe initially but, once again, it almost felt like something was missing. I also remember feeling like the ending was rather abrupt and almost in a sense forced. It goes without saying that that is completely opinion based but…

As you can guess I mainly just played the single player (and a few online matches.) but after that I didn’t really find myself “itching” to go back for more. I will say this though. The actual gameplay, battling it out against the various enemies, was really good. In fact, it was great. You could tell that the people behind the scenes (Bungie.) know what they are doing from a FPS gameplay perspective. I can also see how a game like this could be extremely addicting for some out there. Obviously that statement shouldn’t really surprise anyone considering Bungie’s pedigree but still whenever a company starts a new franchise there is that air of skepticism in one’s mind whether they will be able to deliver or not on certain expectations.

As such, I’m just as curious as many on here as to how Bungie will handle this sequel especially when you stop and consider the game has become very polarizing in the gaming world since its release.

@videogameninja: I was really into the addicting part of the game. Played more then 1k hours of it. Played every single day for more then a year. And i really could keep going...

But then, MGSV came out and i simply couldn't leave it alone. Played MGS5 and in the end, i was impressed how satisfied the game was, and how much of a chore destiny look like when i looked back. Always playng to get that gun that never drops, always repeating the same strikes, always doing the same raids, and worst of all, always looking for someone to play with. But still i came back. After a month or two though, i left the game, for how sick i was with destiny.

What destiny lacks, imho, is a great story, so you can play and feel satisfied with it. Because for destiny 1, the more you play, the more it looks like work, and more addicting it is. There should be an ending point, so, if you want, you could keep grinding (like i did) or stop playng altogether, and still feel satisfied with its story and lore. Also hiding the the lore in a website was a s**** decision.

If the story writer didn't left bungie a few months before destiny launch, i really think it could be one of the best games out there. Now i'm pumped to see the second, lets see how it turns out.

Thank you for your imput, and sorry for my bad english!

EDIT: Oh, and i lost the stream... i wasn't ninja enough...

@Veltoro: Can't argue with you there ;)

As an aside I find it quite interesting that whenever someone tries to spew some form of hate in these comments sections/forums they automatically go to the "you must be a kid, etc..." line.
