@Cernwulf (sorry for the paragraph I'm about to unleash upon you) I am a man, and I find myself nodding along as she describes her feelings. It isn't that black and white. It's just a flat-out well-written video game. In my opinion, anyways, Carolyn wants to convince anyone that the positive aspects are worth playing to appreciate what is considered to her as good game design. You see, that's what people find misleading. No "gameplay"? Can be beaten in 2 hours (or 2 minutes if you want to look at a walkthrough and find stupid crap to complain about)? 20 bucks? Must equal not a good game,and they give her a lot of flak because it's so "not a game," and yet it gets the same score as our beloved Dark Souls and outranks GTA cuz, I dunno, feminism-eww. People are still thinking back when Gamespot used a little more "rigorous" way of scoring games. Kind of stuff that just wouldn't score well if we tried to go back to gameplay/sound/graphics/value/tilt category. But you're right, the review isn't misleading. She tells you it's story-heavy, got no puzzles, etc. People are skeptic because of that, which is fine, I was too, but there really isn't anything wrong with the game as far as what it offers, and you don't need to literally be a woman to realize that.
@MasterOfMordor @Sonic89pdc That's silly patriotism; all of those editors we love so much are doing other things now. PLUS that was, like, six years ago now. That doesn't give people any more a justified right to treat the people that are representing the site now with any less respect. It should be more noted that there isn't anything wrong with disagreeing with one's opinions, or even considering it a dumb one altogether. I can see what you're saying in that aspect if we're, to say, actually be civil and critique a review in the hope that some of those points could be taken in to a betterment. But making really personally crude remarks about her is NOT "fighting for what we love," at least not in a very progressive way at all. I don't want the vitriolic people to just avoid the site, but I'd rather them be smart about what they're saying.
He makes such a good point, and I even disagree with her justification of the review. This poorly-worded bitching is stuff I saw seven years ago. Wish people would just grow up. Can't see why he couldn't make this statement earlier when any review McShea writes gets the same trolls that propose a petition. Also wish he could just give an example of a GOOD constructive comment, rather than the idiotic ones.
@hydrobeast If it's gonna sell with the new Pokemon games? I doubt it. The Micro was released when the Advance was dying down and everyone already having a dang SP. Two years in an alternative model isn't a bad idea.
@caseysrodeo I find his negative points to be spot-on and the score to be just, but I feel for this particular game all of that can be just as easily overlooked. I'm nevertheless excited to play this game with my younger sibling, especially if the ToyBox stuff is as cool as I'm hearing it is. The fact that the money aspect of this whole deal blows regardless of my enthusiasm, but it's kind of inevitable with the SkyLanders-y ambition involved. I'm with ya, pal: this game is amazing, but also despite the stuff that I'd usually complain about in any other video game.
