That's the risk one runs when using forum advice as the sole direction in making a purchase. It's like going on Jeopardy armed only with information from Wikipedia. :P BTW, you should feel dirty, some threads just deserve to die...

LOL.

Actually, Im not a pr0 PC builder or anything, but from what I can tell your PSU is 650W. Thats definitely not enough for 2 of those cards. You'd need about 900 - 1000W.

As for the heat issues... you shouldn't have any problems if your intake/output fan at the back is well aerated. The only real issue you'll have (from experience0 is a LOT of fan noise. Try using a thermal-take gaming case.

GreaterthanG0d

no. don't you people have any advice other than ZOMG!!111!1 buy moar PC parts, you MUST be made of money if you're posting here.

not to mention the fan noise from the GTS is barely anything. my single 8800GT is louder than two of those *shudders*

Yes your PSU maybe insufficient. You just might be able to pull it off, because I have 8800GTS 512's in SLi and Im using the 700W OCZ GameXtreme PSU.

Not only has my 700W PSU kept my system running, Its also supporting my overclocks. CPU E8400@4.4GHz and GPU 8800GTS 512 SLi @ 750/1000. By the way if you do go SLi you wont regret it, I just ran 3Dmark05 and almost hit 30k. I got 28214 in 3Dmark05

450tantrum

trust me, his CPU is PLENTY.

700W is absolute overkill. unless you're doing two 9800GX2's or three 9800GTX's.

300W taken up by JUST THE GRAPHICS CARDS. What about fans, processor, (sound card?), etc etc.

:P

GreaterthanG0d

300W PEAK THEORETICAL MAX in reality, it would never ever reach that kind of draw

the CPU at stock is 95W. fans are something like 5W each. HDD's are 35W each.

Buy this psu its the cosair 750TX 60a on a 12v rail will run your comp with plenty of headroom.

eric0626

no. stop telling people to buy things (this is addressed at the denizens of this forum)

you're all stupid. (sorry to be so insulting, but the way you (mostly all of you, not actually all) all go about giving advice is really wrong.)

if you were to suggest a PSU. the 620HX would be more than enough, whilst being significantly cheaper. (52A on the 12v... not to mention it's modular so less cable tangle)

though he doesn't need a new PSU, so what am i saying.

@OP. you'll be fine, go for it.

ok, is that 2*1gb and 2*512mb of RAM?

if not, you're sacrificing performance by not going having dual channel (about 10% performance boost.. maybe more, cant remember)

depending on your RAM, 800mhz would be better (some 667, such as crucial's with D9 chips will OC to 1033 speeds, freaky stuff there lol, way better than almost all standard 800mhz chips.)

and don't put the vcore too high, put it up in .025 increments, boot into windows and test with Prime 95, until stability is achieved, watch temps at all times

i'm an intel user, so i'm not too sure on how AMD's are OC'd, but i believe they have something similar ot the FSB (a number that you raise.. and the multiplier... multiplies to get the frequency, raise it by small amounts... in the range of 5mhz once you reach desired OC.. until you go unstable.. then take it back a bit (unless you can add more voltaeg))

i really really hate to necro this thread ED: (ugh i feel so dirty)

but you're all *expletive*s (too many to type out)

you gave this guy so much false information and made him pay money to buy a new graphics card that he in no way needed???

worst help ever.

WoW runs on a dx7 level graphics card BUT YOU NEED dx9 DRIVERS. which he would have had.

great way to misread the specs guys.

not to mention i've run it off 16mb integrated graphics with 512mb of system RAM flawlessly.

.. i found this thread googling for evidence of WoW runninng of Dx7 GPU's (Geforce 2)... which by the way i found on Anandtech in a review.

idiots.

Incredible PC dude congrats !! i wish i have a PC like that

[QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]

[QUOTE="el_carl"][QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]That is a nice middle of the road PC.dantesergei

Middle of the road? Naw... That thing is a pretty killer computer.

8800GTX is old but still fairly high end.

However the Q6600 is old. The Q9450 is the new and it can overclock so much more + it has 12 megs of L2.

Do you have a better computer ???

8800GTX can be beaten by a non-voltmodded, overclocked 8800GTS 512. voltmodded it blasts past the ULTRA.

Q6600 costs less than half the amount that the 9450 costs. does it perform 50% worse? not even close.

I'm using 169.25, that's the best I can find for the 8600GT. ANy recommendations for other drivers? I hate this freezing or w/e it's supposed to be called. Something strange is that Crysis never have this problem, Crysis has alot more requirements than UT3 or FFOWjrtan
google 'hacked forceware' i'm using 174.70 currently for my 8800GT. it's an amazing driver, i haven't bothered with .74 but it's even better.

you should find it on guru3d forum? or somethign like that.

Incredibly loud? My CPU's stock heatsing is far louder. I think the TC would do better to stick with stock and not void his warranty.kodex1717

it doesn't void warranty. as long as the GPU actually HAS a warranty (eVGA, ASUS, BFG, XFX etc.) there's nothing against replacing the reference cooler. hell, with those manufacturers, overclocking is covered under warranty. you could be stupid and push it well beyond any safe limit, have it fry... and then have it replaced free of charge :)

and 8800GT's fan at 100% has a very annoying whine to it (loud too.. it's an 80mm it's going to be loud.). and if it's not at 100% and you're playing a game.. odds are you're going to overheat and have problems. (stock fan profile SUCKS)

no problem.

one suggestion. if going with an 8800GT. aftermarket cooling can be suggested, stock cooler is incredibly loud and not very efficient

zalman Vf900 or AC Accelero S1 w/120mm fan both do the job 30 degrees cooler and close to silently :)
