Hey guys, I've finally purchased a new 500W PSU for my rig to run 8600gt on. It has 16amps on the +12v rail and for some reason wheneer I run games like Frontline fuel of war or UT3, it freezes every 3-5 mins, and after 10 seconds or so, it goes back to normal. I was wondering if it's my CPU that's being the bottleneck here or my video card isn't getting enough power supply.

Here's my specs again:

AMD Athlon 64x2 4000+ 2.1Ghz

XFX 8600GT 540/1350/700 256MB GDDR3

3GB RAM

1.5TB HDD

the CPU has nothing to do with that. May i ask which psu you bought ?? Its really weird to have only 16amps with 500w supply unless you bought 15$ cheapy PSU.

Anyway, before we say anything else, I'd have alook at the temps of your GPU while gaming and for the CPU just incase

This is the exact one I bought. That's what the technician recommended anyway.

P.S: there's 2 +12V rails.

That PSU should be supplying enough power. I would think that it's a heat or driver issue.

I'm using 169.25, that's the best I can find for the 8600GT. ANy recommendations for other drivers? I hate this freezing or w/e it's supposed to be called. Something strange is that Crysis never have this problem, Crysis has alot more requirements than UT3 or FFOW

google 'hacked forceware' i'm using 174.70 currently for my 8800GT. it's an amazing driver, i haven't bothered with .74 but it's even better.

you should find it on guru3d forum? or somethign like that.

For the GPU yes, latest drivers and temp ranges from 48-53 degrees celsius. I'm not sure about CPU.

Usually idle. Here's a screenshot of my CPU under speedfan although I'm not sure if it's accurate or not:

First off, I"m using a 8600GT. All AA and AFs are turned off from both the Nvidia CP and games. Those don't prove useful to me as I have a 30 inch LCD.
