Nice Build. Although I would personally get the Q9450 since it has double the L2 of the Q9300. However the Q9450 is on backorder for a few months at most if not all realtors. Also try to get a Corsair Power Supply since they have the highest efficiancy of any power supplys.

hehe, i held back from pimping a HX620... like mine.. ;).. in thinking.. get one, try finding an article which doesn't give it honors.

HX520, also good.

and i still suggest getting Q6600 IF overclocking.

oh. more posts.

motherboard, i'd suggest the DS3P or DS3R. both cheaper. both better (and better than the L too.. think alphabetically :P)

E8xxx?, stick with quadcore.

and why didn't i think of suggesting crucial.. it's what i normally do :-

could I play like Crysis on medium with it? Or can it play games well?pageiszepplin

8800GT does me Crysis, high/Very high 1280*1024.

that is everywhere bar the last part of the game (but nothing can run that well.)

8800GT does anything. it's a (small) beast. :D

warhammer has much more storyline in the codices and manuals etc. etc.

warcraft isn't bad (in fact it's very good), it's just not as epic.

8800GT is not far from the best. kicks the crap through a 2400 (don't go there, it's not worth it) and oc'd the GT will perform at GTX level. at a fraction of the cost :)

It's everyones favourite time, it's new build time! Looking for your opinions on the following combo:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.50GHz 6MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2

Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply

Using an Asus 8800GT from my old rig.

Suggestions? I'm upgrading from a two year old:

Athlon X2 3800

2GB DDR 400

8800GT

400w PSU

I wont be doing any overclocking at first, maybe in a few months.

How much of an improvement do you think I'll see, FPS wise, I'm not bothered about an extra zero on my 3DMark score :P

Thanks..

farkinell

Q6600 overclocks better. you will hit an FSB limit very quickly with the Q9300 due to the 7.5x multiplier (generally, as a rough guide, 400fsb is the simple limit.. not saying you can't go higher, just it miiight take some effort (probably will)). if you're not into OCing however, go with the 9300. if you ARE into OCing the Q6600 is a LOT cheaper, with more potential power..

decent RAM, can't complain

for the motherboard, i'd go with any Gigabyte P35, there the best for the pricerange, most probably better than that ASUS.

PSU should be fine.

you'll see PLENTY of FPS. no disappointment. not to mention doing anything non-gaming will be verrrryyy much faster :)

crashes due to turning off vsync would be overheating

turn up the cooling (fan) and turn vsync off.

can't explain the stuttering, but that should fix it :-\

OK I will get a better heatsink then, though I do have the coolermaster Gemin 2, the Scythe Orochi seems like I can reach that speed and beyond. Does anyone have overclocking information on this heatsink?

uh. just go all the way to the TRUE 120 (thermalright ULTRA 120 eXtreme.)

slap on a high CFM fan and you have the best HSF setup (air) available. bar none.
