@kee1haul: Sales numbers mean everything. These are products made by businesses that want to make profits. Installbases attract developers and investors. They encourage publishers to sign deals and take on the burden of marketing costs. They ensure prominent places in retail. Go ask Sega and Nintendo if it isn't all about sales. ;)

@subsided94: Sony's lead in the US and Canada, collectively, is only about 10%. But yea, worldwide they;re demolishing the Xbox One. Aside from the UK literally every other market is a lost cause, with the PS4 outselling the X1 by magnitudes of up to 400%. At that rate MS may as well just stop worrying about the costs and logistics of supporting them and focus entirely on the US, UK, and Canada.

@seanwil545: definitely wait to see if MS has to reduce the price even farther. You're not missing out on anything until Rise of the Tomb Raider ships anyways.

@silversix_: even with the release of Halo 5 looming, the PS4 has had four SKU's in the top 100 of Amazon's best sellers (US) since the $50 price drop. Two have consistently been ahead of the Halo 5 bundle. The problem is that $500 price tag, but Microsoft (thanks to the multiple OS's, odd build with eSRAM, and other things) is losing money on their $350 SKU's. Even without the Kinect. Bad news for them, as Sony is still making a small margin on even the $350 SKU's, thanks to the reduction in price of GDDR5 RAM (they can place less modules in the consoles going forward as they have access to ones with more capacity that are cheaper to fabricate).

The more powerful system is cheaper to make. Go figure.

Software results:

1.) NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)

2.) Madden NFL 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)

3.) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, 360)

4.) FIFA 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)

5.) Destiny: The Taken King (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

6.) Super Mario Maker (Wii U)

7.) Disney Infinity 3.0 (360, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)

8.) Mad Max (PS4, Xbox One)

9.) NHL 16 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)

10.) Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)

It's worth noting the PS4 actually led sales for Destiny: The Taken King as well, but software bundled with consoles don't count towards the NPD tally. From Sony: "Including the highly successful limited edition console bundle, PS4 also led retail sales for Destiny: The Taken King.”

Sony still bangin'. The worldwide console numbers is about 24 million PS4, 13.5 million Xbox One. Wow. Only about a 10% margin in NPD territories though (primarily US and Canada).

@rooster1223: The difference between native 900p (1600x900) and 720p (1280x720) is pretty large in and of itself: 518,400 pixels per frame/image. Upscaled 720p with a bunch of post processing added looks like crap to anyone with a decent television and a working pair of eyes. Upscaled 900p at least passes well enough once upscaled, but is still a lot worse looking than 1080p.

Some of these are good deals for players with more money than time and no desire to build their own PC; some of those SKU's with high-end cards are only about $350 more than if a person slapped it together themselves. Others are laughably overpriced - talking 300% premium (looking at you, FNW).

@angrycreep: The rumblings I've read place the PC release date closer to the start of the financial quarter in the spring - March or April.

@berserker66666: It's 1080p on the Xbox One (tweeted by the game director and confirmed by Digital Foundry), and will no doubt be the same on the PS4 whenever it releases. The direction they're going with microtransactions sounds odd (and perhaps even limiting) on paper, but I'll reserve judgement until I see how they actually play out in the live product. Though it shouldn't come as a surprise: by partnering with MS for a timed exclusive on the less-popular console, pushing back the release of the game on PC and PS4, they kind of torpedoed their chances of near-release success. So they were bound to cook up some kind of aggressive microtransaction strategy to boost revenue at release. Unfortunate. The game probably would have sold twice as many copies had they not decided to take it (limited)exclusive.

@lrdfancypants: Me too, preordered the Steam Link and a controller, should arrive the same day Fallout 4 drops. I was planning on trying out the controller with games traditionally designed around KB&M, like Civ 5 and Cities Skylines - but calibrating for a FPS should be fun as well.
