sorry about Vista but he didnt say if he is using dx10 or notSistem_42

Yeah, I am using DX10 but nothing is modded. I thought I could run much higher resolutions and get better framerates than I'm getting on it...

I think that's why I'm concerned, the resolution I'm running is so low I should get much higher framerates.

So I just got a new computer a few months ago and the performance in games is severely lacking. Here's the specs:

E6600 Core 2 Duo (2.4ghz, 4mb cache)
2 gigs of ram
7200rpm hd
8800gts 640mb
Vista 32bit

And here's what I get in games... this is running like

Bioshock 1280x1024 high detail - 50fps (dips to 30s) AA/AF are at 2x/2x
Unreal Tournament 3 1280x1024 high detail - 45 fps (dips to 30s) AA/AF are at 2x/2x

Why?! Something is bottlenecking my performance and I don't know what it is or how to fix it. Any suggestions on where to start?

[QUOTE="grantstewart"]

So I have delayed purchasing a PS3 because when it launched it did not upscale PS3 games from 720p to 1080i, and since my HDTV does not support 720p I figured I should wait until they either provided a software fix or started including a scaler chip.

Has Sony fixed this issue? Do the new 80 and 40gig units have a scaler chip or has the firmware been updated to address this? I'd hate to buy the 80gig, take it home and have Motorstorm only run in 480p.

Thanks so much! Hopefully this has been addressed and I'll be posting about how great Uncharted and Warhawk are on this board soon.

How old is you TV, is it a TFT, Plasma or still one of those rare CRTs running in native 1080i. OK, there some games in 1080i, like Uncharted or VF5(even in 1080p aswell)or Call of Duty 4, but if you want to play Motorstorm then it doesn't look good for you, haven't heard of any new scaler option so far.

I am not sure, but the definiton of HD Ready means that, and please correct me if I am wrong, is that a TV supports both 720p and 1080i, while Full HD adds 1080p aswell. I know that there are some TVs that only support 1080i native, which is higher then those 'native 720p + fake 1080i' TVs but well, why not buy a Full f**** awsome new HD TV then.

(wowwohhh post number 1600!!!!)

It is indeed one of those rare CRTs. It looks great when running in 1080i, the Xbox 360 scales everything and the only game that looks bad on the set is Dead Rising. That's a real shame sony hasn't fixed that, I am pretty poor so I could only afford either a new TV or a PS3. I sort of just wanted an excuse to buy either the 60 or 80gig since I no longer have my PS2. Oh well, hopefully next year they will fix it.

If Microsoft drops price again in 6 months and still has the 2 game bundle that got leaked from their press site, we may see a Sony price drop sooner than you think.

I'm asking myself the same question and I think it comes down to whether you want one with backwards compatability or not. I want to get one this year because I have a lot of PS2 games I want to play on the same box as my PS3 games years from now, and I know that the software supported backwards compatability isn't very good. So yes, if you want backwards compatability, the 60 gig is worth getting this year.

As far as games goes, its lineup doesn't really match the Xbox 360, Wii or PC (which I put in this category since you could upgrade your pc for 600 bucks). The first party games are good, but I don't think that anyone will argue that Warhawk is better than Halo 3 and that Heavenly Sword and Drake looks more interesting than Mass Effect. I also think that the PC version of UT 3 will be the best one but I have serious issues with the Games for Windows LIVE program and they may use that.

To me, the main draw of a PS3 this year is the hardware basedbackwards compatability which they took out in the 80 gig model and downloadable and importgames. There will be a demo of little big planet this year and one can import some of the more interesting games that may come out in japan.

The main reason to buy a PS3 I think is still for the future, because the Japanese will eventually start buying them and those Japanese games will most certainly not come to the Xbox 360. Also, Burnout comes out soon and it's going to be amazing.

Basically, if you like western games, skip on the PS3 for another year or so, if you like Japanese games then you'll want one soon and you may as well get one before the 60 gigs are gone.

So I have an old HDTV that only shows 480p and 1080i. I want a PS3 for some games coming out next year (LocoRoco, Little Big Planet, Echochrome and MGS4) but I'm not sure if all of them will support 1080i. I surely don't want to spend 1,000 bucks on a new TV, so do any of you know whether new games will support 1080i or if the next PS3 update will support upscaling for PS3 games and not just PS2?

Thanks!

So I've been looking into buying a PS3, but I don't think that my HDTV will work with it. My TV supports 1080i instead of 720p (it's an old CRT) so many of the best PS3 games will scale down to 480p instead of up to 1080i. My question is does anyone know if sony has any plans to include some sort of upscalling for PS3 games in the 2.0 update?

Also, I have considered buying a monitor with an HDMI input, does anyone know if the PS3 is able to run through monitors through HDMI or DVI?

Thanks for the help!
