Getting abs to show is mostly a function of bodyfat percent.11-12% is usually the sweet spot where they start to show up fairly well on most. Of course there will be discrepancies in either direction, but genetics are a tough beast to overcome. As to some of the responses ITT. Yes squats and deadlifts force rapid gains in core strength, but direct work is still extremely beneficial, especially in bringing up weak points ie: losing tightness out of the hole squatting. I disagree with Martin Berkhan in that sense, as do many others.

Losing weight is tough. lol. It's tough if you don't know what the hell you're doing. If you're 20-30% bf or above it's easy mode. Dieting while already lean is when it becomes difficult.

Health problems are far too often the "go to" excuse, however obesity is not always a "personal choice".

It is a 100% personal choice to do nothing about it. Which a grand majority of the obese do.

Critic's word is not gospel. Plenty of movies I genuinely enjoyed that are considered rotten, and just the same quite a bit I didn't like at all that are considered fresh. If you're interested in seeing a movie, just go see it and make up your own mind. Reviews are subjective and you shouldn't change your mind solely based on other people's opinions. That said, I liked the first one and regardless of what RT says I will probably see this one.

Since I'm bored I'll tell you what's up. You either move too much, or eat too little. That's it. 100%. None of this "I have a high metabolism!!" bullcrap. BMR difference between adult males is probably going to be a few hundred calories at the very most. High metabolism arguments are and always have been bullsh!t peddled by people that don't understand the body. Protein doesn't need to be excessively high to gain weight. As a matter of fact 1g/lb lean body mass is plenty enough on surplus calories. If you eat enough calories to gain weight, but are still undershooting protein then urdoinitwrong. Shakes aren't necessary either, but can be helpful for convenience sake. Eat how you feel comfortable. Don't fall for this 6-8 small meal shyte. It's complete garbage. Just get the necessary nutrients in by the end of the day. Resistance training is your best nutrient partitioner aka where your excess calories go. Eat enough to gain 0.5lb a week, but no need to go overboard. And I can't stress this enough: DON'T FALL INTO THE "CLEAN EATING" BANDWAGON. IT'S A CROCK OF ****. Your body doesn't know what the fck a "clean" food or "dirty" food is. Brown rice, sweet potatoes, chicken breast everyday is retarded. Enjoy variety for christ's sake you only live once. /endrant.
