The new network configuration at my school allows my PS3 to connect to the internet but not the PSN for some odd reason. Is it possibe to download patches and updates for individual games (not system updates) without being logged into the PSN?
I own both and it really does not matter. What G-Man says is absolutely correct though: FFIII's gameplay is dense and less story oriented. It is also a very difficult game. You have to one-shot dungeons because there are no save points inside. -_-

It is also available in Super Startdust HD, Midnight Club: LA, NCAA 09 (for specific events), and MLB the Show 08 (during menus only) that I've seen. Also in PixelJunk Eden after fully completing the game.
I'll tell you what my friend always tells me. He used to work at gamestop: buy a new DS3 so you have a reciept, go home, switch the controllers, return broken DS3 and get your money back. Or maybe you could be honest and tell them it's broken and see what they say.
