The new network configuration at my school allows my PS3 to connect to the internet but not the PSN for some odd reason. Is it possibe to download patches and updates for individual games (not system updates) without being logged into the PSN?

They let you use your ps3 at school? If they let me use mine at school I wouldn't have to wait till I got home to peel my banana.

Afraid it won't work. You aren't able to connect to PSN because the IT people managing the connection have some of the ports needed blocked by default. You'd need to discuss options with them.
