.. and maybe potentialy screen-watching? I was browsing CNN today and read one of their stories about CES, particularly about TV's. At the end of the article they have this to say in the last paragraph...

Texas Instruments Inc., which makes the core components of many rear-projection sets, introduced another technology at the show that uses the same elements to help gamers out: DualView. In essence, two gamers wearing shutter-equipped glasses will be able look at the same screen but see different images. That means the screen doesn't have to be divided down the middle for two-player gaming. That should prevent the cheating that occurs when one player peeks at the other's half of the screen, TI said.

This sounds really, really cool if it can be pulled off cheap. I wonder if the sound would mess with you though, because on a split screen that barrage of noise makes sense.

[QUOTE="King9999"]Hmm...I just thought of something. In StarTropics, there's a part where you have to input a code before you can progress, and the code was on a piece of paper and written in invisible ink. How is that part handled in the Wii version? Maybe the game's code was changed?m0zart

From Wikipedia:

For the Virtual Console release, the letter is included in digital form with an image of a letter and a bucket of water at the bottom. When the player clicks on one of the images, the letter dips into the bucket and the code is revealed.

Hahahah, That's awesome! I remember when I first got Startropics, I bought it from a used game store with no instruction booklet. Man was I pissed when I found out you needed the code. And because there was no real internet (or gameFAQS) at the time, I had to do something that I have never done since ... go out and buy a SECOND copy of the game just to get the manual. Now they just need to release Startropics 2, cause I never actually beat that game.

The only people to blame.... are the consumers. Another great game goes the way of Psychonauts. Good job everyone!

Firstly, Possible spoilers.

A good game? Yes

A worthy sequel to Chrono Trigger? No

For every great part of that game there was a equally annoying part. Cool battle system, but a complete dis-reguard for techs. Awesome amount of characters, but 85% of them were just stupid and you never cared about their backstory (or lack thereof). Neat story, but almost no refrences to Chrono Trigger at all (the only one I can remember is the computer called Prometheus). Intresting dimension travel idea, but it still burns me that there are only 2 dimensions (after playing CT I was expecting going to 4 or 5, each with it's own cool twist).

Spectacular atmosphere is what saved that game. But if you think it was overrated, then you are going to love Yatzee's old review of it on Zero Punctuation -->http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/1394-Zero-Punctuation-BioShock

[QUOTE="Silenthps"][QUOTE="evilross"]

you fail, 75% of the wii games are total crap... its a perfect comparison. Take a look at any billboard sales chart and then look at the grammy awards.

Most music that wins grammys these days is crap, based on sales and popularity, but every once in a while an artist will get through on name alone. Wii is the same way... a bunch of crap everone wants to like, and is freindly, easy, and doesnt rock the boat.

Wii is to Video Gaming what Nickelback is to rock n roll

evilross

kinda like how games like halo3 and cod4 get awards based on popularity while artistic masterpeices like mario galaxy, zack and wiki and metriod prime3 bearly get the attention they deserve?

artistic masterpieces??? thats funny to begin with... and not getting attention? that even more ridiculous.

Waggle that 'mote man! your in with the cool crowd now.

I really hope Nintendo doesnt crap out the market like Atari did in '82. But its really oddly the same...

I feel bad for game developers that look at gaming as a serious thing, not a hobbie for kids.... Nintendo is trying to set console gaming back 10 years to turn a profit off the handheld market they dominate.

Firstly, that comparison holds no water. Guess what 75% of the PS2 game library was? I'll give you a hint, it starts with the letter "C" and ends with "rap".

Secondly, those 3 games "Mario, Metroid, and Z-dub" are indeed artistic masterpieces, each in it's own way. The art direction in Metroid Prime 3 was simply AMAZING, with multiple publications saying the graphics border more on the art side of the "graphics discussion". And lets not forget the fact that it had the best FPS controls on a console, thus proving that the "waggle" wasn't (and isn't) just a useless gimick.

Mario Galaxy is a platforming masterpiece in a time when little to no platformers come out at all. In a year of FPS after FPS, it was refresing, and brilliant at the same time., or at least that is what 58 big name reviews have thought so far (as well as I). And yet again the motion sensing was implemented in an amazing way that could only be done on the Wii.

And lastly, i'm not even going to defend Zack and Wiki simply because the game needs no one to defend it. If you think that game is nothing more then a waggle gimmick, then there is no way you have played it for more then 20 minutes.

So, I wonder. How can Nintendo be bringing about the downfall of gaming culture as we know it if they are helping to bring back to nearly dead genres (Platforming and Adventure), as well as completely perfecting another control scheme? Seems strange dosen't it?

Oh man I love the throwback to Sonic 3. That music brings back some awesome memories of the first levels. Good ole Angel Island Zone.

"The first ever user-created, not to mention FREE, map for Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 is DM-Shrine by Thomas Browett, who goes by the name Setheran on the official UT3 forums."

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=316514

So what do you guys think? Is this going to be a significant bullet-point in the next get war between PS3 and 360? The beauty of free, user created content could be simply AMAZING on consoles, especially if they allow modders to completely change game types (Like Team Fortress, or Counter-Strike did). That, and it would be totaly killer if TF2 started getting the better user-maps on the consoles (HallOfDeath, Wolf, Turbine_2, Castle, etc..)

To all you english speakers, it's actually "Pokey's theme". Anyways, it sounds awesome, but the end of it brining up the title music seems weird. I wish they used track 240: Pokey's pokey instead. (anyone with mother 3 should know what I'l talking about)

The stage is nice too.

kittykatz5k

You know, I was going to ask if "Porky" was the same as Pokey from Earthboud, but I totaly don't want to know yet. I'm still waiting for the fan translation of Mother 3 to be released so that I can play it and understand what they are saying (instead of just using a walkthrough to play the levels).
