It had a good December, supposedly, according to vgchartz. It's well over 100,000 in NA by their estimates.

I don't get it. It makes use of the Wii mote very well. I guess casuals and non gamers probably found it requires a bit of thinking to play through it...or maybe bad marketing. Who knows? majadamus

Could have something to do with the fact that nobody having a clue the game exists...

They're pretty good at "making them up" most of the time. Last month, all of their estimates in every region were within 5% of actual.
So, what do you have to say now?
come on ppl...get it. its supposed to be brilliant. ill be getting it as soon as it hits europe....maybe itll see more success here.
have to say though that it looks like capcom are doing an okami on this one. there seems to be no after launch support for the game from them. these things wont sell themselves. unfortunately ppl do need to be informed about these great games.
anyone know how much it cost to make? perhaps between japan and the US, its already turned a profit.
[QUOTE="numba1234"]ur only talking about American sales?? what about the rest of the worldMassive failure, it makes r&c tod sales of 200,000 look godly.

bigLLL
It's not out in PAL territories, and it only sold around 5K in Japan.
:(
I blame Capcom for naming it such a horrible name. Treasure Island Z was the perfect name: it was mysterious and appealed to both kids and adults. "Zach and Wiki: Quest for the Barbaros Islands," not only is it too long, but it obviously is directed towards children.
A better boxart could have helped. It looked like some Disney Cartoon.
Some advertising would have helped. Capcom have no one to blame but themselves.

Well..that's Capcom's fault. ;)

Try almost no marketing. People don't buy what they don't know exist. It's as simple as that. Personally it wasn't the type of game I was looking for so I didn't pick it up. However the low sales are the publisher's fault for not doing anything to advertise the game to the masses or to bring any attention to it. I knew and I'm sure many others knew this was going to happen. When IGN started their "Buy Zack and Wiki" plan I felt it was going to be a waste of time and effort and it was in the end. They should have spent more time trying to convince it's creators to advertise the game, introduced them to some PR firms, etc. The result would have been better.
As of the end of November 2007.
December NPDs still haven't come out.
And it did ~20k in Japan. And it still hasn't released in Europe. They still have a chance to make a profit, given their non-existant marketing.

Hey man, it's not the sales, it's the quality of the games. Ask anybody.
And Z&W is an excellent game.
yes, it is always a sad day when a great game goes unrecognized, unsold. Wasn't this published by Capcom? They shouldn't have any problem on the advertising.Mad_Rhetoric
Which makes the whole situation more annoying for me and confusing. It isn't like the game was done by some new company or some lower tier company. Capcom is one of the most well known game companies and one of the most successful. They shouldn't have had any problem advertising or getting the word out about their game. Why spend the time and money making a good game if you aren't going to do a damn thing to make sure it sells is what I don't understand.

i'm playing it now and i think i know why it didn't sell well. It's like the old point and click adventure games of the past except that it's story is really weak and too bad japanese anime style for me. I like my adventure games to have a better plot and less annoying characters.
What I find extremely depressing is that my cousin has 3 young children, and retailers pretty much forced a bundle on her with the Wiiat Christmas. The retailers make extramoney from this and rid themselves of unwanted extra copies of gamesby forcing ppl who want a Wii to take 2-3 crap games in a bundlejust to guarantee they will get a console. The poor kids ended up with nonsense like Billy the Wizard and two awful movie license games or something.
Yet Zack & Wicki seems like the perfect Wii game - it makes use of the controls well, it appeals to both adults and children (apparently both will find the puzzles challenging to the same degree) and due to a lack of advertising has not sold well. Its a shame that it did not release in Europe before Christmas, because this would surely have boosted sales if you take into account the popularity of these types of games in Europe and the child friendly nature.

An established franchise and a huge title for the platform vs. a new IP with minimal advertising.
Hmmmm....
give it at least a 6 months before calling it a failure.
people seem to think the first few weeks are the only time a game sells.
i see it selling over 500K when it's all said and done.

Well, I bought Zack and Wiki.
I don't see why you have to insult sheep. Besides, we don't play sales at GS.

It's almost a requirement.
What do you expect from a game that had no advertising whatsoever. I didnt even see a magazine advertisement for itr, let alone a tv commercial. Its a great game though, every Wii owner should have it.Haziqonfire
Actually there was a magazine ad for it in Nintendo Power, but it was a fake one because Nintendo Power did it because Capcom wasn't going to do one.
It was a nice gesture of them, but didn't help much.
The only Wii owners who bought the damn game read about it over the net. Seriously. WTF is Capcom thinking?
And I don't see what R&C has to do with this.
Another pathetic, disgusting flop for the Wii. It entertains me to see one hyped Wii exclusive after another perform miserably in the market. Yum. :DV_Isle
But we don't play sales.
