@Hurvl Ya it's nuts. The PS2 still got ports of AAA titles up until a few years ago. Heck it still gets ports of sports titles I think and the odd JRPG. It seriously was a bad a** console. Still got mine hooked up even though it doesn't get much play time these days.

@Kiaininja Ya the Wii is in the same boat. Dolphin plays games at higher resolutions with AA/AF better then the Wii/Wii U could ever hope for. A little more hassle to set up but once you do it's pretty awesome. Stuff like the wind waker in 1080p with full AA/AF look almost as good as current stuff because of the art style.

@Kenshin0011 @sieg6529 Ya and when your potential market is only 1 million buyers the return will either be very small or impossible. Games aren't cheap to make especially AAA titles. Until everyone console makes the "next gen" jump I have a feeling these kinds of articles will just keep coming. I mean it's 100 million plus on 360/PS3/PC Vs. a million on the wii U. Releasing early doesn't really do much to help you get a jump on the competition. The 360 was stuck in the same boat for it's first year. All it had was Lazy HD ports of sports titles and a few exclusives.

@Kenshin0011 @SwimSwimHungry Ya but head starts don't really help. The 360 had a year head start and it had more or less had the same problem. Only sports titles were ported over and exclusives. It wasn't until sony/nintendo moved forward that devs were willing to actually actively dev full time for new hardware systems. Even then PS2 versions of games were coming out until 2008/9 (I think some sports titles STILL come out on PS2). Right now Dev's have no incentive to make a game for the wii u. The player base is small, The EU DLC is gimped and frankly it just isn't the best financial decision for 3rd parties. Porting games isn't cheap and it's even more expensive when you have to try and work around control gimmicks. Sony/MS/PC has more then a 100 million possible buyers on still current gen systems VS. Wii U with about 1 million. Until everyone moves forward I doubt dev's will give much love to nintendo. Also I wouldn't expect not to see new consoles announced this year from MS/Sony. Been plenty of rumblings of dev kits for new microsoft/sony hardware being shipped to devs and what not. I don't think it's going to be a monumental shift forward in terms of fidelity but I don't see how sony/MS can keep going with this hardware much longer. It's just plain old.

@RandoIph 220 gun deaths since this shooting occurred in the U.S. and that was two days ago. I'm sure another couple dozen more have died since then. I'm Canadian and I can honestly say I think only a handful of people have died from guns in my town. I live in the "murder capital of Canada" as well lol Never even seen a gun besides the guns cops have.

@hobotech64 Ya it's total BS especially since he isn't targeting one media. Everyone watches movies, everyone reads books and in 2012, if you are under 40, you play video games regularly too. Violent crap has been around forever...has he SEEN the stuff that was allowed through the censors in the 70's/80's? Movies have become WAY more censored then they used to be. A lot of PG13 movies in the 80's, depending on content, would be easily be R these days. Also stuff like SAW/HOSTEL is tame compared to the exploitation films of the 70's.

@darkeyez81 Actually gun crime is practically non-existent in japan. Gun deaths are usually in the single digits or on a VERY bad year there might be 20 or so. It's a lame excuse to get the media talking about ANYTHING other then guns.

@slainta Or japan where gun deaths have been as low as 2, in recent years, in the entire country of 130,000,000 people. Video games are even more popular then they are here.

So here we are again, another massacre and all the fingers get pointed at everything but the real problems. The video game industry really needs to hire a few lobbyists, make a few generous donations to politicians and perhaps we wouldn't have to hear this load of crap on the news every time some lunatic decides to kill people. I always love how these guys think we still live in 1985. In a world where games are some niche hobby and only kids play them. They do realize that if someone is under 40 chances are they have played or play games on a somewhat regular basis, right? I remember reading in a few places the average gamer is 37 now lol It's like saying the toilet was the reason lunatic #8183739 did what he did. In 2012 almost everyone has a game console in their house. It's as common as a TV, computer, book or DVD player. Wow did the lunatic read books, watch movies and enjoy food? Holy cow what a revelation, he's like every other bloody person on the planet in 2012! Absolutely none of it has to do with him killing 20 kids.

I'm not against discussing the effects of violent media on people but it pisses me off when the blame gets almost entirely put on it. The person who did the terrible thing is NEVER at fault the awful things he/she did. It's sickening.
