@Bangerman15 @andrew_ribbons ya the 640m is an HTPC GPU. It will be able to handle some light 720p gaming on medium but beyond that, good luck. It's only marginally better then the 4000 graphics to be honest since the 4000 can handle light 720p gaming as well. Neither will give you a great experience.
@zachoon @BloodyAura a 640M is NOT high end gaming lol The desktop version of that card is designed for light gaming and HTPC use and the M versions are always far less powerful then bigger versions. So essentially they are using a HTPC GPU to try and power this thing. It won't even be able to handle 1080p on low with 30fps with that card. Maybe some 720p at medium but that's about it.
@megakick ya and the specs are awful for gaming. A 640m? Seriously? Considering the 640 on the desktop side is already pretty low end and the M series stuff is even weaker, this thing will barely be able to do 720p at medium details at 30 fps.
@sam628 Razer is the apple of the PC world. They have a laptop for 3000 bucks that has worse specs then an asus laptop of less then half the price. This thing is a joke and is going to crash and burn...hard.
@punkdsk8erdude That and this thing won't game very well anyway. A 640m is an HTPC GPU that can do some VERY light gaming. For a "gaming" tablet they sure forgot the part where it's supposed to game.
@Dasim64 haha ya you are right this is essentially a gimmicky middle of the road laptop tablet. A gt640m isn't going to give you much gaming performance. Since M series stuff is weaker then it's big brothers (which a 640 is already pretty low end) this is essentially using an HTPC GPU. You might be able to get some decent 720p gaming at medium to high with no AA but anything higher is out of the question. This is just a completely pointless device that imo deserves to fail. Who thinks this is going to take off? If it wasn't for the two gamespot articles I've read about it, I wouldn't even have known this thing exists. A stupid idea on almost every conceivable level and the price absolutely seals it's fate.
@PlatinumPaladin @a1450358509 Except you can get a nexus 7, kindle fire or KOBO arc for less then the wifi version (way less if you tack on the insane memory card price). You can game on that as well as do a ton of other stuff for 50 bucks less. Tablet games are getting better (already quite few gems now). The vita appeals to gamers but to everyone else it's a hard sell when you have attractive alternatives that cost less and offer more.
@Kravyn81 Not to mention you can get powerful tegra 3 tablets, like the nexus 7, for 200 bucks that have decent games on them now and have far more utility for less.
@weisguy119 @sonicare Ya and tablets are not stuck with static hardware either. So the highest end experience is going to be on the tablet. I mean with tegra 4 and I'm sure it's successor coming out by the end of the year tablets won't be just knocking on vita's door but console gaming's door in terms of fidelity. Cell phone and tablet hardware is like home PC was a decade ago. Every month has a new faster more powerful phone/tablet released. All tablets need is a unified controller peripheral that devs support and what do you need a Vita for? At least 3DS has the 3D gimmick to differentiate itself but the vita needs unique and must have software to separate itself from the constantly improving tablet gaming scene. Already plenty of high quality games you can sink hours into on tablets and they are only getting more and more popular. Tablet games are moving away from mini game laden 99c angry bird style. That's not going to change and tablets are past the "it's just a fad" stage now. Sony needs to drop the BS memory card prices and lower the initial price to 199 (it can't be more expensive then stuff like the nexus 7/kindle fire) and release some real killer apps.
