Ah sweet. I bet that was tough.
I'm now on my 4th year of Games Design. I'm specialising in 3D, though in Max not Maya. I use UDK a lot, but not yet had chance to use Unity, would you recommend?
Nice stuff, I dream of getting there eventually too, te competition is stupidly fierce though!

Cool. I played around a lot with UDK back when it came with Unreal Tournament 2003, I tried it last year and I was lost :P There is just so much you can do there. Unity is a lot easier to work with, it is so forgiving and straight forward. So I do recommend it, you can prototype your gameplay so much faster. And you can get great visuals. I usually compare them with cars, where Unity is ordinary street car, it gets you where you need to go, it is comfy, easy to use, has a cup holder etc. while engines like Unreal and CryEngine are like Formula 1 cars, yes, it is blazing fast, it is shiny, it has all the advanced super gadgets inside. But if you only has an ordinary drivers license your not going to go very far or fast in it.
One of the great things abotu Unity is the community driven assets store where you can get almost everything you need, or if you want sell you assets to fund your projects. Which is my plane, coming this january I'll be buying Maya LT(new cheaper indie version of Maya) and start getting my stuff out there.
So yeah, I would give Unity a good look at.
