Yeah I can vouch for Super Stardust HD, Wipeout HD, and Tekken 5 DR looking a lot sharper in 1080p, I believe Everyday Shooter may be native also

I can see there are a few angry people posting here and for good reason. I was keen on buying the PS3 version, but there is no way that I will do that now. Instead of working hard and delaying the game until it was comparable, Bethesda have instead chosen to show contempt towards PS3 owners and dumped a clearly unfinished port onto us. With all the great titles out soon I hope people won't reward the developers for this laziness. I would recommend picking up Dead Space (awesome) for PS3 or any number of titles instead.

Actually, you can get the PSN cards that work on the Japanese store, Play-Asia has them, and they show up on ebay. I plan to get on soon for R-types, R-type Delta, King of Fighters 98 and, yeah, Biohazard Directors cut.

People are dissapointed because of the internet functionality? It's a games machine, with music and video - internet is an afterthought. Is it any worse than on mobile phones?

Anyway I decided to get a PSP after I saw Tekken DR running at a booth in Tokyo. That game is not a 'watered down' port at all. The PSP is great if you travel a lot, or commute on a train or something. If you like retro collections (like Metal Slug) or RPG's then the PSP is fantastic, I just got Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for an upcoming overseas trip. If you have a PS3 then there are a lot of great Playstation 1 games that will run on it. I plan to get a 8 GB memory stick, and get King of Fighters 98, R-types and R-type Delta from the Japanese PSN. Castlevania, Wipeout, Final Fantasy Tactics - there are plenty of great games for it. But the person who started this thread didn't even mention games! Get custom firmware if you are a programmer and you want to fiddle with it, run emulators, etc.

if Aaron wrote in this thread, he would just see post after post of stupid flaming. there is no reason for him to post in here.c0mplex

Well apparently he posted on the Heavenly Sword forum after his review of that game. Of course there is a reason, if you have read through this thread, and not just dropped in now, you would see there are a lot of valid criticisms that have been unanswered. It goes beyond flaming although that has been present as well.

Seeing as much of this thread has focused on the reviewer, it seems like a good idea to post his blog comment, probably this will be as close as we'll get to a proper comment about the issue:

"It's amazing how a little controversy brings out the best and worst of what the Internet has to offer. On one hand it gives every moron capable of using a mouse and keyboard a voice and they often use that voice to say the most hateful, horrible stuff you can imagine. On the other hand, it lets people that are intelligent, tolerant, and thoughtful to discuss ideas, listen to opposing viewpoints, and participate in some genuinely insightful discussions. Kudos to anyone that doesn't think the fate of the world lies in some random System Wars thread."

It's funny, I don't seem to remember Aaron coming into this thread and 'participating in some genuinely insightful discussions' at all. Maybe because he believes the criticisms in this thread have allhave come from 'morons' rather than intelligent, tolerant and thoughtful people.

Sad.

All that is changing this week with the release of Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for Sony's PlayStation 3 console. The new Ratchet is a watershed for gaming because it provides the first interactive entertainment experience that truly feels like inhabiting a world-class animated film.

Yeah, this is a good observation, and this is why I got so annoyed with the Gamespot review. R&C does deserve this recognition (for being so close to a pixar film, fantastic for younger gamers), and it's too bad that a mainstream newspaper picks up on it but Gamespot doesn't! Maybe sometimes 'hardcore' gamers miss the importance of something like this, while the more casual crowd 'gets it'.

A good example is if you look at Gamespot's Metal Gear Solid review for Playstation way back in 1998. Jeff only gave the game 8.5, and made a lot of criticisms about it's length (he complained it was only 15 hours long, shows how times have changed). But at least he recognised the games importance - quote "The game definitely is revolutionary in many ways. It breaks new ground in gameplay and truly brings the video game one step closer to the realm of movies. It is, without a doubt, a landmark game". Now THAT'S the kind of recognition I would of liked to have seen in the Gamespot R&C review, but it just isn't there.

I thought people should read this. A guy put up a topic saying Insomniac calls out A. Thomas about his review. It got locked but I am pretty sure the TC would want more people to read it. Here is the link.

Also the funny part is they never mention any names, but everyone knows who they are talking about.

It shouldn't get erased here being this is the Official Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction thread. lol I can't believe there are so many posts.

Nice find m8. I just had a listen, and yeah, they definately single him out, saying "Go play more sports games!" and things like that. The R&C team do say this is the only bad review they have gotten for the game. But they aren't too upset because other critics have given really good reviews. They did note that it's funny Gamespot is having a Resistance tournament straight after all the controversy. Anyway I don't see Gamespot admitting to a mistake but I hope they take all this criticism onboard and be more careful in the future.

I bought my PS3 from playasia.  Playstation 3 games are region free, so no worries there.  The only issue so far is with Resistance for multiplayer, you can't play multiplayer if the machine is out of the region it was bought from. This is not expected to happen for any other game, just a launch issue.  PS1 and PS2 games will be NTSC-J, DVD's will be region 2 only, and for Blu ray Japan and North America have the same region.  No problems with accesories.  If you are buying from Playasia I would recommend getting a rumble controller early (they are out soon in Japan, be the envy of everyone! lol) and a Japanese PSN network card, so you can buy games from the Japanese PSN store.  The Japanese PSN has a much bigger library of PS1/PSP games than the other stores.

1. Definately should play CD's - I don't know about burned CD's though, but yeah, store bought ones should work, if they don't then you have a problem.  I've ripped a lot of CD's to the hard drive.
2. Not sure, but if you can put the files on a Memory Stick then it can play them.  It didn't recognise an external hard drive when I hooked it up, probably thinks that what an ipod is.
3. Don't know, have you checked compatible video formats?  It is described in the online help.
