There are a few reasons why the average joe might not be too keen on this.
1. You are wearing a headset. Plain and simple. Noone really likes to look like an idiot, and this makes you look like one. I dont know if you have watched the videos, but there is a great one with an interviewer and the guy in the background looks hillarious.
2. It cuts out your senses and leaves you vunerable. Nobody likes to wear blindfolds, (ignoring those people ;) ) because it hightenes all senses and you become scared almost of your surrounds, or someone will come in and punch you in the face. Sounds strange but putting this headset on, will immerse you in the game world or flip side, issolate you from the outside world.
3. Its something totally new + the above points. Its like Kinnect and Move in a way but with the above things.
My personal opinion on it is that its pretty awesome if I am honest. I think its a real step forward into something new. Its going to increase imersion without actually going to far. What I mean by this is, anyone can be good at games from a physical point of view. However if you need to start throwing you arms round, doing excerise basically, it will cut alot of people out, especially in mulitplayer games. I think the idea of virtual reality is awesome, but there is a reason why more people games than sports. The effort and its more of a genetic even playing ground.
Hopefully this is going to be great, I hope they can improve the screen to 1080 and not 720 which is to low and 1080 should be the lowest.

Good points, also my only concern is that it could be bad for my eyes , thats the only problem i could have with it , if you are in your room and close /lock the door solves the first 2 above problems
