Plain and simple, it was a business decision. Microsoft felt people would pay to play and they were right. About a year ago I saw a TechCruch article that said 12.5M people are gold members: that's an extra $750,000,000 annually in revenue. And I'm sure some of that money goes towards getting DLC before the other platforms and into development for new features, etc, but really it's just good business to do what you can to do to turn a profit.

That and cross game chat is pretty nice.

I know plenty of people with college degrees working two part-time jobs outside their fields right now and most are lucky to clear more than $8 an hour. Especially in Michigan, you take what you can get or you get out of the state. The clear exception seems to be the medical field where places are having a hard time finding qualified workers.

I actually dropped out of college in '08 because I got a solid job offer. There isn't a whole lot of opportunity in some places, you have to take what you can get. I was a lucky exception to that.

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure it's one or the other.
