Party of up to four members who are automated (you can change their combat tactics).. So at a minimal you have to control your main character in combat at the other end of the spectrum you can micro-manage all of your party.

Its a good system wish there was a way to automate your main character.. ;-)

The main point with the new 40nm GPU is that it requires less power and thus doesn't produce as much heat..

The first gen slim had a 40nm CPU which meant that the form factor could be reduced for the same reason.

Performance wise its not worth worrying about.. however when your current PS3 wears out you should replace it with a 40nm CPU and 40nm GPU..

Of course if that takes another 5 years that's even better because I understand that Sony is working on 32nm CPU and GPU versions..

Its unlikey that the repair will stick.. Will last for a few months tops and then will die again..

I'm not aware of anyway of making a copy of copyrighted data.. The PS3 removes the copy option from anything that is copy-protected.

Worst are EA games all their save fails seem to be copy protected so if in my case you loose your PS3 you left with NOTHING at all.

Not Sony's fault but it is a pain in the ass loosing over 150 hours of play just because EA decided to be code monkeys. ;-)

Backup is really easy and the only data it won't backup is copyrighted and you can't copy that by any method. Need to re-download it after restoring.

It will preserve all of your settings, playlists and account infomation.

plug in FAT32 formated drive into PS3

Select backup from the XMB Settings menu

Wait for an hour or two for it to finish

Recreate a second backup on a second drive if your paranoid (In case the first dies;-)

Reformat your drive

Restore the backup to the drive

Re download copyrighted data..

I really liked it, although some trophies are bugged . I killed about 2000 darkspawn and didn't unlock even the 100 kills trophy .

Copy-protected games, videos and even save files (EA copy protects for some reason) will not get restored to a new PS3, however from experience they do get restored to the same PS3 (e.g. if you upgrade the hard-disc) seems that restore detects that your PS3 has changed and filters the content.

When my 60gig launch PS3 YLOD I had to contact Sony to release my video's and Singstar tracks and then spend a few days re-downloading everything to the new PS3 Slim, I was quite surprised as I had a valid backup of my original system at how much data was lost.

I understand the reasons for this level of protection but it is in my opinion over the top, I would have prefered to have simply switched the hard-disk from the old PS3 to my new but of course that doesn't work either (new PS3 asks to format the old disk).
