@mucking_foron it's not unrealistic, it's just completely unnecessary. if one would like to compare an isometric action rpg dungeon crawler to a first person historical shooter to a side scrolling platformer... that's their prerogative. it doesn't mean it makes any sense.

i've played games that have scored just as high on gamespot (e.g., crysis) and didn't care for them in the least, and played games that i absolutely loved that scored average or lower (e.g., spec ops: the line). i personally enjoyed gone home very much.

toy story 2 sits at #1 on rotten tomatoes as the greatest movie of all time. sunset boulevard doesn't even make it to the top 100. ::shrug::

@seekndestroy21 @dustin564 i'm pretty sure that gamespot has stated in the past that their policy is to compare games on the same platform that are similar games/same genre. which makes sense. why would this game be compared to diablo or system shock 2 or quest for glory or wolfenstein? i don't think you should be looking at this game as "how is this the 2nd best PC game of all time, according to gamespot", you should be looking at this as "this is the best art-house/indie-developed/first-person/mystery/whatever according to gamespot."

"Your likes and dislikes are a major factor here, and while we can tell you that the latest first-person shooter is an amazing technical showpiece and an outstanding game overall, that might not be enough to win over a person that dislikes the entire genre. So consider the hidden feature of our new review system to be your own common sense, which all of our new information must be filtered through. If you like games that are funny, a game that earns our medal for funny games might still appeal to you, even if it scores a 5.5. And no matter how many 8.0s it gets, the latest football simulation probably isn't going to win over any new fans." jeff gerstmann on accounting for personal taste and bias in gamespot reviews

@Juon408 um, yeah, i read what you wrote and understood just fine. your naivety is glaringly obvious. you seriously just reiterated that you don't care if someone buys your stuff or not, whether initially or later on... so you either need to properly state what you're trying to say or just stfu. and seriously, you've never heard of cbr or cbz files? and i'm the idiot? wow.

@Juon408 i don't know how to say this without sound like a complete asshole, but basically you think people should work for free and not get paid, because the currency of the world is sunshine and rainbows? yeah, your point here is no different than the one above. YOU may not care about people copying your comic and reading it for free and are apparently so financially stable that you can afford to do so, but not everyone is. other people need to get paid and can't afford to have their creations given out without getting some kind of monetary compensation

@Juon408 if you don't work with investors... where do you think your money for making said games is going to come from? kickstarter? goodwill? it sure is easy to act high and mighty and not "bow down to a board's demands or investors", but the reality is they're the ones with the money and you're not going to have any of it to make your games. and yes, you could get fired even if it was your company.

@BigFeef how exactly do you know that they simply "flipped a switch" and turned it off? considering there's quite a bit of time from then until release, perhaps they are working on patching it through, and that is part of the reason why you absolutely have to go online at least once when you first get your console? considering that microsoft put everything out there and tried to stick to their guns, then retracted with the overwhelming feedback, i'd much rather have that kind of honesty than sony, who has done a ton of shady stuff with DRM in the past (rootkit anyone?). as well, this article directly contradicts statements Shuhei Yoshida made where he said the overwhelming response prior to E3 about microsofts drm helped them decide to change gears on their own drm policies. makes sense, let microsoft take all the flak, then switch tactics immediately and act like you were the good guy all along, lolololool
