Free_marxet, you still have not answered my questions. How can you say that social security is being run effectively. And why not let people buy insurance across state lines? It'd drive the costs down considerably.
Then we should stop fire department services. I've never burnt down my house, so why am I paying for some idiots who burnt theirs!? How about cops? You do know that fire departments and police forces are local services, right? You pay the taxes to your city and they pay for the equipment and training. There are plenty of people outside of city limits that have to have volunteer fire departments. That being said, I don't hold healthcare to the same level as having a police force, fire department, or military. I guess that it where we differ in our opinions.
your standard of living is lowered because you have less to work with. It has nothing to do with digital cable, or eating out. But it could, I mean, people who are able to do those things on a regular basis have a HIGHER standard of living. If youre ok with being at the bottom, when you dont have to be, then thats irrational. You dont have it better than the socialistic countries in northern europe, thats for sure. government can run social security, what it cant run is the military, which eats up so much of our budget that it takes away things from other programs. Our government is also setup in a way that makes it harder to do social programs, which needs reform.Free_Marxet

And I agree with you, we absolutely need to cut military spending.
So just because people of low-incomes can potentially afford it (which I doubt your case is representative of all cases by far) with the result being their monthly income to be depleted because of it, that means we shouldnt help them be able to save some money every month?
