Very thought provoking post and I agree with your take on a lot of it. I think though that it is not so much a fault of the gaming industry as it is our society, it's not just gamers that have to have the newest and best and then complain when things do not live up to expectations. Fashionistas, scrapbookers or camera afficianados all want the newest even when it's not needed, really wanted or even better than what they already have at home.
My mom is in her 40s and she occasionally wears a bikini to the beach/pool. I hate it when I am with my friends at the beach/pool and my mom is there wearing a bikini, they always try to sit next to her and stuff to piss me off. Screw them, some of their mom's wear bikinis also but not many. Luckily now she doesn't come to the beach with us so it's only when they come over to swim in our pool, but not if my dad is there.GTA_Fan360
You need to talk to your Mom about how it makes you uncomfortable. I'm sure just knowing that it bothers you will make her more aware of when your friends are around.
