Isn't that a laptop? And why would you need to do that? Just download Speedfan and configure the values of the fanspeed.

Going by the specs the laptop has, I 'm not surprised.

Nope, it's the Aspire TimelineX 5820TG, released June last year. It's not overheating it, but I generally don't like the temperature on the air coming out from it.

I'm still not surprised. But honestly, if your temperature is getting high, that's a heating issue, and of course with lack of cooling you'll just have to put up with it even if you alter the fan speed.

Not to mention the specs are a little unbalanced IMO.

It's not very ventilated there I got it, but I can do some small things that helps with that. Which I usually do if I play a game. Forgot that the room temperature is way above what it is usually at this time of the year. Lets see if I can get it down from average 50C or so now :P

And unbalanced how?

Your laptop shouldn't be getting so hot with your specs unless you are maxing games or lacking cooling options. Room temperature is far more important as well.

By unbalanced, I mean CPU is decent, RAM is enough, but that GPU is crappy, not even decent. For older games it isn't bad though.

To be fair, my system is only unbalanced when it comes to the cpu, though it'll be changed sometime soon, rocking 2 1GB 460s and 8GB RAM here with an average AMD Athlon II X4 645 overclocked to 3.6ghz.

Well I do run Quake 4 at 1680*1050 with everything on high or max I think except no antialiasing... Some screen tearing during videos but almost nothing during gameplay. :?

And it is a laptop so of course the GPU is crappy. Yet this one is far better than many out there because it is has a dedicated GPU card.

The temperature hasn't gone down now, but the fan is almost off. How do I increase the fan speed with speedfan? I didn't really understand how to do it.

Um, there are laptops with good GPUs.:| Even with SLI/Crossfire. Yours is still low end but way better than intergrated graphics.*shivers* Example of a good one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152295

Has a 1.5GB 570m which is awesome for laptops.

See where it says Speed01 and more along with arrows next to a % sign? Click the up arrows on them.

That is true, lol.

But here's another good explanation:

"Before starting, if you are using speedfan to control an important temp, make sure that it loads with windows. The way you configure fan speeds in speed fan, assuming your mobo supports it, is as follows:

1. Disable any on-board fan control (Asus Q-Fan) in bios. Note: This will cause your fan to spin at 100% until the system boots and speedfan loads, which can be really annoying is you have a really powerful fan like I do.

2. In speedfan, under the button marked "Configure", check the box for "Automatically control fan speeds"

3. Click the "Configure" button. This will bring up the temperature tab. For each temperature, you can click the + sign and show a list of fans. Clear all of the checks next to each fan for each temperature. This step is probably the most tedious part if you have alot of temps.

4. Choose the temp you want speedfan to maintain, and select the fan you want it to control by checking the box next to the fan under that temp's pull down menu.

5. Now click on the temperature itself, and on the bottom of the screen you can select the desired temp and the warning temp. The desired temp is the temp at which speedfan will increase the fan speed if the temp goes above it. The warning temp is the temp at which speedfan will adjust the fan to 100%.

6. Click the "Speeds" tab up on top. Now select the fan you chose before. Set the minimum and maximum speeds. The minimum speed is the speed it will run whenever your temp is below the desired temp, and the maximum speed is the speed that the fan will run when your temp is between "desired" and "warning". Your fan will run at 100% when its over "warning".

7 Close the configure window and wait. It takes like 5 seconds for speedfan to apply those settings. You fan should slow down to its minimum speed now (or faster depending on your temp).

For example, I have a quad core, and I set my desired temp at 40c and my warning at 50c. My fan runs at 5% most of the time, 50% when above 40c (usually during heavy encoding), and it hasn't ever hit 100% yet. I'm on water though, and I use speedfan to control my rad fan."

Must be a year or two older than mine considering my friend has same specs with 57 series model. But good enough to play Crysis 2 smoothly

EDIT: Did your heating issues get resolved? I would love to get mine resolved :( Seems that bugs Timeline models

It's a year and half old now... Two years old in June. The heating issues may come from the GPU fan turning on really late.

Yeah, Unions really seemed to die out in 2011, though some were still holding out pretty well in the first half of the year, I wouldn't say unions along with this whole site (such as Staff/new ToU) really took a turn for the worse until after Summer of 2011 ended.

In most benchmarks the 8150 is worse than the i5-2500k, plus my bros can have my AM3+.

How often do you change CPU, GPU and so on mitu?
