@fattiesgonewild: Agreed. Dishonored 2 is the only game that stands up to it, but for some odd reason, it was not nominated for GOTY.

@rglgathrawn: Right? I'm a huge Soulsborne fan, and even I have to agree that DS 3 is not a GOTY contender. It's still a good game and well-made, but it's missing that special something, that certain je na sais quoi that previous games in the series have. I don't know, something was just off about it. And this is coming from someone who chose Bloodborne over The Witcher 3 (*gasp*) as GOTY last year.

@me3639: Dishonored 2 is so brilliant but so overlooked, kinda like the first one. I mean seriously, the art direction and level design is genius, especially in Jindosh's mansion. That mission blew me away.

Although there were a lot of good games this year, there are, in my opinion, four GREAT ones that really stood above the rest: Uncharted 4, Dishonored 2, Dragon Quest Builders, and Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. I understand that the latter two are extremely niche and overlooked in the West, so it should be between UC 4 and D2. Extremely surprised that Dishonored 2 is not nominated for GOTY as it not only received excellent reviews and improved on the original (which won practically every publication's GOTY award in 2012) but is also MUCH better than Doom or Titanfall 2. As much as I adore Overwatch, it would feel odd giving an online only team-based shooter the prize. So it has to be Uncharted 4, there's really no other competition among the chosen nominees.

@PhoenixML: 20 million players last I heard (and will probably grow with the new content and upcoming free weekend), so yes I guess you could say there's still some people playing it ;)

Overwatch has a very dedicated community, and Blizzard is really good at listening to its players and addressing complaints and trying to keep the game as balanced as possible. I expect it to be around for years.

Was trying to decide between this and BF1 and told myself I would buy the one that received better reviews and buzz; however, both are getting 8s and 9s from pretty much everyone. This makes my decision tough (as much as I want both, I also want other games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, XCOM 2, and a handful of upcoming ones) but I really, really need something to pull me away from my Overwatch and Dragon Quest Builders addictions.

I'm so tired of this DLC nonsense in the gaming industry these days. I can understand if, after a game releases, the developer comes up with a new idea or decides they want to add some story content later (The Soulsborne games and The Witcher 3 did DLC right), but intentionally withholding content (especially if it's story-related) during development to charge for later is ridiculous and beyond greedy. Sorry, but if you are already developing DLC before the game releases, it should be IN the game.

@vobadov: True and if neither one (The Last Guardian or FF XV) turn out to be any good, at least I have Dragon Quest VII and SMT IV: Apocalypse. And I can't see Dishonored 2 being bad at all. Persona 5, which just scored a 39/40 in Famitsu BTW, is probably my most anticipated game so far this generation, though (other than Dragon Quest XI, but that has not even released in Japan yet and will probably take another year or two after that to localize here).

I'm still trying to be optimistic, you never know. I think with a game that's been anticipated and hyped for this long that they should not announce a concrete release date until 3-4 weeks before release when they are absolutely positive it's finished. I just hope this and Final Fantasy XV end up defying the odds and are absolute masterpieces; if they aren't perfect or close to it, it's going to be ugly.
