@Legend_of_Link: True. The problem with many open world games is they focus on exploration and freedom so much and have so many repetitive side quests that the narrative becomes unfocused and you often forget what is happening in the main story. If BoTW can bring variety and little vignettes to the side quests and tie in with the main story like The Witcher 3 did, it's going to be quite something.

Previewers were only allowed to play the first few hours (and BoTW is supposed to be ~100 hours to do everything), so I don't want to get too hyped from what I've read, but when the majority of them are saying this may be the best Zelda since Ocarina of Time (a huge statement), it's impossible to not get super hyped. Will next Friday get here, please?

@ntcertified: Exactly. I do not get why people feel the need to come leave angry comments on EVERY Switch related article they see. Y'all can hate all you want, I will be too busy playing the new Zelda next Friday.

@crawlingeagle: I agree that Inside and The Last Guardian were brilliant, but The Last Guardian came out so late in the year and is an exclusive, so there's no way it would win. There were a lot of really good games this year (contrary to popular belief apparently), but in my opinion Uncharted 4 was really in its own league. The two games I personally enjoyed the most this year (Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse and Dragon Quest Builders) are not even making these lists lol

Sorry, but "most popular" is not tantamount to "the best." Uncharted 4 was clearly the best game of the year and really had no competition; however, gaming sites always go out of their way to give the award to a multiplatform game to avoid backlash from console fanboys. I could have lived with the brilliant Dishonored 2 being given the title, but a multiplayer only game with barely enough content or updates to justify the price tag? Nah.

I love Overwatch and play it quite a bit, but giving it the award over Uncharted 4 or Dishonored 2 (the fact that it wasn't even nominated is bullsh*t) is absurd. As fun as Overwatch is, single player games with strong characters, narratives, and exciting, cohesive worlds are much more impressive and should nearly always trump online-only multiplayer ones.
