@mrbojangles25: stop questioning election integrity. There's no evidence of that nonsense

@RSM-HQ: that game also utilized lighting moreso than RE4, so that the contrast made the darkness seem even darker while making the image pop. RE4 is desperately in need of some lighting

By far, the most impressive visual achievement in modern videogames is the lighting system. It can turn fairly unremarkable settings into eye-popping visual feasts for the eyes. But far too many times I have to wonder- where is the lighting??

I have posted pictures of a few games for reference.

Crysis 3 for Xbox 360

Last of Us Part 2

Resident Evil 4 remake

Notice how much more pronounced the lighting is in the first game? It gives a level of depth and contrast which gives a "Wow" effect that the others are lacking

Resident Evil 4 especially- where is the "wow" factor? With the incredible contrast ratios televisions are capable of, and the graphics that modern consoles and PCs are capable of producing, why are developers resorting to such drab settings?

Technology is still a long ways away from realistic character models or animations. But they can certainly produce convincing lighting. I just wish more games took advantage of it.

@RSM-HQ: That's true, but the remake showed that they could simply modernize the controls and it would still work perfectly.

RE4's combat is what made it a classic, and it has been used as a blueprint for the genre and 3rd person shooters in general. From what I've played and seen from other "good" Resident Evil titles, combat feels like a total afterthought. There was absolutely no reason they needed to ditch the satisfying and engaging combat system for boring gunplay and unresponsive bullet-sponge enemies. Even if they simply wanted to reduce the amount of combat and focus more on the survival aspect, they didn't have to intentionally make it worse

It's hard to fathom how they created the perfect 3rd person shooting mechanics with RE4, and just decided to ditch it. To me, no other game matches the intensity of every single encounter. If they revert to the generic shooting of other modern Resident Evil titles instead of building on what they did here, it will be a total waste.

Metroid is and always has been one of the most overrated franchises of all time in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad people love it, but outside of the original 2 it just all seems so meh to me.

I remember trying Metroid Prime on the GC, and it was the most bored I've ever been while playing a game. Can someone tell me where the enjoyment is to be had in this series? It's crazy that Halo came out a year before this, yet the gunplay and combat is a million times better (I'm no Halo or Xbox fan, either).

It was cool seeing some things in 3d, like some classic enemies and the morph ball (Which was the best feature by a MILE). But at no point did I have fun. Some cool puzzles, but the walking, scanning, and combat was a total snooze fest. I think the concept and nostalgia did a lot of heavy-lifting, especially with Nintendo loyalists (no hate).

Lol

The incredible jobs numbers are due to businesses which reopened or rehired due to shutting down during the pandemic. Duh.

And the record-low unemployment is a joke, as the labor participation rate is comically and catastrophically low. The unemployment rate has been rather meaningless beginning with Obama's term (and yes, that includes the Trump years). Things have managed to cool down, but inflation is still causing a lot of pain, and he's directly responsible due to his energy policies

His conduct regarding the border is impeachable and criminally negligent. Countries have been occupied by hostile forces crossing over borders in lower numbers than the # of crossing per month here. Instead of making this a top priority, he's suing states who are taking actions to protect their borders (aka he wants it to happen)

But overall, not bad

The point of this episode was to get a Guest Appearance nomination for Nick Offerman. And as true as they've been to the source material, I'll let them have it. He's admittedly excellent, and seemingly in a role he was born for. I wouldn't be surprised to see a spinoff for him, or to see him portray a similar character elsewhere.

The best development is that we're beginning to see the charm which made Ellie so likeable in the first game. I didn't care for Ramsey at first, but she's coming into her own. But I do think that episode feels a bit odd in the grand scheme of the series thus far. Is it going to remain standard post -apocalyptic affair, or will it inject heart into the storyline and characters?

I believe Capcom made an overcorrection to the combat in the Resident Evil series. Yes, RE5, RE6, and other spinoffs were terrible. But none of these were true attempts at a RE game, like RE4 was. They were simply attempts to cash in on the action trend in gaming using the franchise name (shame on you, Capcom)

The new titles look amazing and are true to the foundations of the franchise, but I think they receive a lot of goodwill for that reason. If this was a brand new series, I think the people would be less forgiving of the tame combat.

The enemies here are really just obstacles, which I know was true of the original games. But that was also due to technical limitation at the time. I don't think they even needed to make the games more combat-heavy, they just could have made the zombies a little more daunting. The reaction to seeing a zombie should never be, "I need to get something on the other side of the room, but there are zombies blocking my path. Darn! I guess I'll just walk around them " You should be scared, and anxious to take them out. And I just never was. Also, it's fine that they don't react to headshots like human enemies. But I would like for skill to be rewarded in some way.

I hope the Resident Evil 4 Remake reintroduces the combat and gameplay as a grand part of the experience, rather than a means to an end.

@masterkiller103: One of the most noticeable things to me is how underpowered Kratos is compared to his past iterations. Much of the appeal of being the God of War was feeling immortal and overpowered. The new ones seem more Zelda-like, where you're wearing down enemy HP instead of obliterating their souls. You feel like much more mortal, which really goes against what the series has always been about.
