Well, you're not going to enjoy your games if you've never played them; that much I can tell you. Most people that play the Wii that I know of don't really consider it a fad either. It's a system with innovative ideas, but that doesn't make it a fad.
I play mine pretty regularly, though it's been mostly GC games recently since we're going through a little drought of money. =p
I enjoy both multiplayer and single player. It's an excellent game, hands down. The fun factor never really goes away, especially if you connect with others online.
I think I may just rent it before I decide to buy it, and end up buying Yoshi's Island instead. I didn't realize so many people didn't think it was too fun.
