I have windows XP home. My taskbar has about 7 things on it. Nvidia, vdo tool, steampowered, Microsoft virus scanner. Nothing much compared to yours. I'm wondering if I should reinstall windows, as I have never done it before. I delete all my old games and try to keep the hard drive cleaned up. Does reinstalling windows clean up things that I am not able to clean up with cccleaner. ?

I have never reinstalled windows the whole time I have had it. Is there a rule that it should be done on a regular basis ?

I have noticed lately that my computer is becoming unresponsive and not obeying mouse commands. When I click on exit, the page either takes a long time to go or doesn't go at all. If I click on start and try to bring up a new internet page nothing happens. the botton line with the start key and the icons on the far right are still responsive to the mouse. If I bring up the device manager, it shows nothing wrong. I have cleaned up the hard drive and it is now only 60per cent full, plus have run virus scans, but everything come up clear, so I am at a loss as to what is wrong with it. I am wondering if the hard drive is stuffing out, but there is no strange noises comming from it, so don't know. The computer is a 9 year old Dell pentium 4 with 2.5g of ram and 7600gt video card on the AGP mother board. It's an old machine now, but it still seems to play games ok, on low settings. I know I will have to replace it at some stage for gaming, but would still like to get some more use out of it, even if it's only used for the internet.

So thanks in advance for any help with fixing what's wrong with it.

Good advice. I wont do anymore to this machine. The thing with me is I like to get my money's worth. I got my computer 6 years ago for $2200 and found after a year of use, it needed to be upgraded. I have a 19" monitor and big sub woofer that blasts the roof off, both of which are still good so I will not be replacing them. I live in New Zealand and a new box is about $1400 from a shop, maybe more if I get it made. I think I will stick with nvidia as from what I have read most people seem to like their cards the best. I will tell you one thing, when I buy another one, I will be wanting 5 years out of it. Thats just the way I am. Regards Ivan

Ok thanks. I thought as much. But I like to ask the experts first before I do anything. The adviceI got on here last time was pretty much dead on. Replace the 5200FX with the 7600GT was great. My unit cant bethat bad though, because I can play most of the new games like COH and Call of Duty no problem at all. I read some people have trouble playing these games with newer and more expensive computers and video cards than I am using. From what I have read the 7600GT was a hot card when it came out.

hi all, I have a 6 year old DELLcomputer and up to now have had no problems playing any games, and in general it has been great and I have never had any problems with it. I have just got "Order of war" and I can only just play it with all settings on low. A few years ago I put in a new video card 7600GT nvidia and two 1gb memory sticks. I am wondering what else I can do to upgrade it before I have to replace it totally. I have a pentium4 2.66 processor on a AGP motherboard. My question is, am I able to upgrade the processorto a more powerfull one and if so, is it very hard to fit.Or is that it for my computer. Thanks Ivan

I have had my computer for four years now and it has been great most of the time. But i must admit it struggles with some of the newer games. I mostly play the strat games. Blitzkreig, faces of war, rfb, codename panzers. The video card i have is old but it still manages to keep up just. It is the nvidia geforce fx 5200 128mb. The computer is a dell 8300 with 2.6ghz processor. With 512 ram. Any ideas on a upgrade card. I was thinking the nvidia 7300Le, 7900gtx, 8600gtx. If compatable. If i just walk in to the shop i imagine they will try to sell me anything just to make a sale. So i will see how i go on here. Thanks Ivan.
