Hi

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a humming noise coming from my Dell desktop, so I ran the Dell trouble shooter over it and it told me that there was a couple of bad parts in the hard drive and that I should replace it. My question is, if the hard drive is bad how come the computer it still works ok. I would have thought the computer wouldn't work until I replaced the hard drive. Does it just keep on going for a while, then one day just stop working ? Don't understandee ? It is 10 years old now, so I suppose it's coming to the end of it.

Nothing has been changed. The computer is the same as the day I got it. I will do some of the things that you suggest and I was thinking of maybe doing a system restore as well. If none of that works maybe it's time for a new one.

Many thanks for the link, I will take a good note of the error message when it returns. Since I ran the last process that you recommended, I have only had the blue screen of death once since then and that is while surfing a web page through Internet Explorer. I generally only use chrome these days as my default browswer but partner uses IE and that is when it crashed.

Your help and advise is appreciated.

Laptop isn't making any clicking sounds and still has over 50 percent of disk space availiable. Have run a few different virus scans and all have come up clear. The blue screen only seems to be coming up now when I use windows explorer. It seems to work fine when I'm using google chrome. Maybe it's time to have it looked at by a repairer or replaced ?

Hi There, all was going well until this morning when I tried viewing the news through internet explorer. As a rule, I only use google chrome these days but for some reason I ended up in internet explorer and I ended up with the blue screen of death again with the same error message. I am wondering if you have any further ideas as to what may be causing this issue? Many thanks!

Hi There,

I am having problems with my Dell Inspirion Laptop which I got in 2005, it is running Windows XP Professional

When doing anything on this laptop includidng surfing internet, viewing documents etc, I am getting the "Blue Screen of Death", have had this about 7 times in the last 24 hours and the error message that appears is:

"Kernal_Stack_Inpage_error

Once I get this, there is no option but it turn the laptop off by holding the on/off button for a few seconds until it has turned itself off. I then have to also disconnect from the power source and leave for a few minutes before turning it back on.

Not sure if this is related but this laptop seems to run very slowly, I have switched to using Google Chrome because internet explorer is terribly slow almost to the point of non responsive.

Help!! Can anyone give me a clue as to what is causing this issue?
