Over 200 instances of fraud, along with violations of federal crimes being referred to the DOJ. He lied and said his apartment was over 30k square feet when it was only about 11k square feet. I mean, cmon. That's not even trying.

This is going to be laughingly easy for the prosecutors in court.

Trump's lawyers must be tearing their hair out of their skulls after watching this...

I said it before, I'll say it again, I cannot believe any lawyer would still defend this cartoon. They are now fully, 100% reliant upon disingenuous officiating from the bench now. They have no case and everyone knows it.

@hansbeej: Isn't it kind of sad dealing with those people? You think to yourself "omg that's so brain dead stupid that this person can't possibly be serious", then you find out they are serious and just end up feeling a bit bad for how gullible they are. 🤦‍♂️

Yea, it's sad, and as I mentioned I now wonder if we're doing harm by even responding to them - giving them an outlet for their delusions.

I'm guessing we get Kenzinger and Cheney to support this in the house. Maybe Romney in the senate. Romney won't support it unless it's definitely going to pass, though, so it's possible Sinema tanks the bill.

With all of the major legislative wins of late, along with the tide turning in favor of the Democrats and Dark Brandon in recent months thanks to the Supreme Court and several heartless GOP governors, Sinema may just be more inclined to vote along with her colleagues and not go asking for ridiculous concessions this time.

I mean my hopes aren't high for her, but an opportunist like her must see how supporting this would benefit her political future. Short term and long term.

There must a whole lot of information yet to be revealed by law enforcement or the courts here. A judge let him out on bond after he admitted to purposefully running the kid down and fleeing the scene - while intoxicated. Either there is much more to this story, or that judge is the one of the most lenient in the country.

<Just more of eoten misunderstanding things and/or outright lying - there's no point in repeating it>

You speak with such authority and assertiveness as if you know more about these event than anyone else here, and have the gall to pretend that you are more of an authority than the actual lawyers themselves. All this while being habitually incorrect about literally everything, or outright lying.

You remind me exactly of the kinds of people who think mass shootings are fabricated and that the victims are "crisis actors". You reject all evidence that doesn't confirm your beliefs, lie to yourself to fill in the blanks, and express anger towards the victims themselves and anyone who acknowledges the truth.

I've seen you kind of hateful conspiracy theorists in news shows and such before. I always kind of wanted to interact with one out of fascination. After having done so the past few weeks (with you), I feel like it was a bad idea and doing so has actually been boring, a little frustrating, and left me with a feeling of compassionate embarrassment: I truly now worry that we may be feeding your crisis by entertaining your delusions.

Wow, I just read details of the lawsuit against DeSantis.

It's so much worse than the original story. They lied to a bunch of refugees, to the point of manufacturing a bunch of fake brochures on refugee benefits, in order to exploit their vulnerabilities for political and personal gain.

I think it's fair to say that anyone supporting this stunt is a terrible person.

The details are here:

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/09/marthas-vineyard-migrant-pamphlet-ron-desantis-fake-brochure.html

Fabricating and distributing this material while presenting it as official may be some kind of minor offense (there's some law blogs out there discussing it, IANAL), but regardless it proves their goal was to deceive.

This story keeps getting worse. The people behind this scheme are so slimy. I can't even imagine being so uncompassionate.

There's a theory going around that in order to get taken serious for the next election, far-right and conservative politicians are trying to be as Trump'y, or to even "out-Trump" Trump, in a bid to gain more support since the far-right doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

So we will continue to see politicians, especially those looking to capitalize on Trump'ism and MAGA, act in really bizarre and unfortunate ways. Just more and more extreme.

I only hope they break laws in their effort to be like Trump. "Oh well that was a very Trump-like attempt on your part, but you did commit a felony, so no presidency for you!"

DeSantis is certainly trying to emulate Trump, there's no doubt about it. He wields the power of government against those who are ideologically opposed to him - whether they truly are or if he just pretends that they are.

It's sad because he's only harming his own constituents. Like when Disney very mildly opposed one of his measures, so he went scorched earth in a manner that came to Disney's benefit yet cost his own taxpayers millions a year for the foreseeable future and left many aspects of governance within a certain area in question. Like this stunt: it does nothing but burn funding that could be used for good, and his ardent fans will wildly cheer it on like idiots, all while they have to pay for it and get absolutely nothing from it. Only DeSantis benefits.

I guess that's just the republican party these days. They grift their base and their base loves them for it.

I should become a republican politician. It seems like such an easy route to fast riches. But I was raised right and have compassion.

Whoa, that video.

Obviously the officers responsible for that brutal, immediate assault should be prosecuted. What's disappointing is how enthusiastically violent police are when they respond to protests considered liberal in nature. They're always the aggressors, and they appear to genuinely enjoy hurting those people.

We need more federal oversight on policing in this country. It's so sad when one compares the effectiveness and professionalism of cops in most European countries with the police in the US. I suppose it starts with the short, poor training police receive here combined with the constant message that they're always in danger being drummed into their head.
