Amen, my brother. Also, while beating a game does help in terms of comprehending it, it's not necessary for it to be your favorite. If that was the case, lot of my favorites (namely the shmups) wouldn't count, as I've only truly beaten (i.e. 1-credit cleared) a few of them.I know. I was just trying to be fair. I do like Super Mario Bros. more than Sweet Home. And yeah, Omega Factor. I love how the dialogue is so important. It even levels you up.[QUOTE="gunswordfist"]GBA- Astro Boy Omega Factor. Consider the series automatically unruinedI find the original best. It's a pretty good platformer series with charming art-style (especially the 2D games) but they kinda ruined the franchise with those rabbits. Luckily Ubi realize that so they're making a new one in the vein of the original (Rayman Origins).

He's definitely right about the markets' preferences changing drastically. Japan used to be at the forefront of gaming, now they're almost irrelevant. They're out of touch with what the western market likes, which is currently the dominant market. They need to study what makes everything here so successful if they wanna go for worldwide success. Relying on whatever method's they've been using up till now clearly isn't working.
What I find interesting about all this is that most of Japan's biggest franchises now have installments being developed by western developers. Devil May Cry is now being handled by Ninja Theory, for instance, and Resident Evil's got a game being developed by a Canadian studio. That they're handing off their own creations to devs on our side of the pond is a good indicator of Japan's current relevance, I think.

I think that is a sign that many Japanese publishers/developers are lost. They should be creating new franchises, but instead they are endlessly milking and rebooting old ones. Turning to Ninja Theory (who has a string of commercial failures under their belt none of whose gameplay was anything to write home about) to save DMC (which at its best boasted some of the tighest gameplay out there) is an act of lunacy.
Honestly, I think they should milk franchises but they are doing it the wrong way. It seems like they are mostly porting the same franchises over and over again instead of giving us sequels we want. They should pay better attention to what we want instead of porting games we already have. Also sequels that have a strong fanbase but won't do well in retail stores should be downloadable. I want to see them do that for a new Einhander and JetSet Radio.hopefully they replace all the cops/campus pd and cheaters episodes with mma programming. im not sure what mma has to do with tech or gaming, but id have the same question about a lot of the shows they air now. atleast mma is watchable.LoG-SacramentYeah, just like how MTV2 is only watchable when Bellator is on.
