@ModestDude @eriktkire @Mariner32 you say that now, but remember, EA is fighting to regain the crown of being douchekings of the industry, a crown they once held for almost a decade... and BF is already becoming CoD... useless rail single play campaigns, and yes.. they are now following the yearly sequel formula with minimal implementation for improvements. Restrictive way in which players are able to log into a multiplay match? Battlelog logins are the BF version of P2P in CoD... it's a step backwards and they don't care what their playerbase feel about it, they're just going to plow on thrrow with what they think is "the future" of gaming.

Everyone knows BF4 is BF3.2, and BF3 was still an awful lot like BFBC2, mechanics wise.

And let's not forget BF: Star Wars... sure it may be cool for the sake of playing in the Star Wars universe, but it'll still be a reskinned BF, for the most part. Let's not pretend they haven't already crossed the line of "cashing in."

@Mariner32 but both CoD and BF are getting really really old. Tiny improvements now with each sequel (sadly BF is now just as guilty as CoD).

And they're probably realising people are caring less and less about the hype... long term players anyway.

Without the hardcore multiplay comunity, games full of whiney kids don't last...they all go back to Halo eventually :-P

before E3 I would have said the only thing stopping me from caring is the horrible Battlelog connection system...

... but now... there's too much interesting and potentially innovative stuff coming out. "Pretty" isn't enough.

@unikat it's do-able, just a matter of some thoughtful coding. ToonBoom and Anime Studio Pro can do gradient shading for motion vctors. I suppose Flash can as well, but it's primitive by comparison.

Question is, are their coders good enough to figure out how to get it to run over 60fps with all those intricate fight/movement animations.

You might be right though about it being a first release cash in. I hope not.

@unikat they could make the characters really high quality vectors, which would make the eventual translation to 4K do-able while keeping valuable HDD space down.

of course... consoles would have to support a 4K output to begin with, and by the looks of what's been revealed neither have factored in 4K support at all.

@JustSignedUp haha... fanboy huh?

Firstly, money does not = success or brilliance. That logic would place Kotick in a greater position of importance than all the major influential designers in the industry combiuned. And his games are not known for being revolutionary for their game design. Epic is known for the Unreal Engine, Gears was not a grass roots success, it has had massive amounts of marketing put into it from day one. Max Payne, Doom, etc... those are games that were remarkable for their actual design at the time.

Secondly... hehe, I ain't no kid, and you don't know what my success is in life. But let's pretend for a second I am a snot nosed gamer... how does that change the fact that this dude is talking out his arse about things the gamer community at large is LOUDLY against.

I've got a job, a well paying job, you don't need to know what industry because I don't need to validate myself to you, all you need to be aware of is I am one of the strongest voices in the games community. I am an adult that can afford to buy games without a thought of "budgeting"... money from gamers like myself define the part of the industry that is well supported for it's quality, not because of media hype and bloated advertising campaigns.

Your mom might be the reason why 'you' helped to fund things like CoD and Gears of War... I'm the reason why something like Star Citizen is being made.

@moistsandwich then he should shut that ego of his up and go do something.

Actions speak louder than words, and he's putting way too much effort into all these words he's throwing at the industry at the moment.

Chris Roberts and Star Citizen are proof... go do it or shut the **** up.

@SpookyHoobster he's been pushing his idiotic opinions for awhile, he's just been ignored because he is... an idiot.

But now that E3 has made the XBone DRM fiasco THE talk of the gaming industry, Cliff finally has his moment to shine, because he's probably been the most enthusiastic arse wipe trying to encourage a DRM centric change for consoles.

He's one of these idiots that still pushes piracy claims about overall gaming (but he has pointed to PC in particular a few times) without realising more people are starting to crack on to the fact that all those so called studies into piracy have been so inadequately executed AND skewed that they are nothing more than pro-DRM propaganda.

He's clearly let the success of the Unreal 3 engine go to his head.

hahahaha

the music industry doesn't have many rock stars left these days, not real ones.

What kind of dues will these gane rock stars have paid? Made a game within a 2 year time frame or less? WOW. Rock stars were built on releasing 2 or 3 full length albums a year for several years (even up till the late 70's), grueling tour regimes and living a life that balanced excess self destruction with life-changing-creative-inspiration for others. Advocating free spiritedness too

What do AAA game designers do? Work late for a guaranteed salary, 401K package, benefits, etc... delay milestone after milestone because the recreational gaming sessions around the office keep eating into too much work time (if you don't think this happens.. it does, way too often)? Rush out inferior products that require further patching that still don't cut it for the bloated budget pumped into the title?

This from a man that advocates taking AWAY your basic consumer rights with DRM so you can't even borrow/rent games anymore to make sure you're not pissing your money away on yet another piece of shit overglossed AAA title?

Besides, there are designers that have already achieved the game version of rock star status. Carmack still holds the crown... what about Molynuex, Chris Roberts, etc.

****, even that hipster Minecraft dude has more class than this clown!
