they should have the option of both genders.. like mass effect.. playing as a woman just feels wierd to me. this game sounds interesting but the female only character puts me off. spending a bit more money on animating a male character would of covered both options. unless this game is outstanding, theyve lost a sale.

@hardeddie its a little known fact because its not true lol. i remember when the ps1 came out. everyone wanted one. it was the in thing to have. up until then consoles where for kids, then all of a sudden it was cool for adults to have one. it filled a gap in the market. tekken, gran turismo, wipe out and resident evil (amongst others) where also major factors. there wasnt any true competition at that point either.

it took years to hack the ps1. i also remember taking apart my playstation to solder in the chip. was a nervous moment firing it up again afterwards. but that was ages after it came out. by then the ps1 was the undisputed king.

i do think being able to hack a console boosts hardware sales. but from sony, microsoft and nintendos point of view thats pointless. they quite often make a loss on hardware so the last thing they want is to sell more without the prospect of software sales to counteract their loss...

@sigmact i dont think any console owner has declared a pc sucks. they own consoles for different reasons to a pc owner. usually down to cost. ease of use. or theyre a kid and mummy and daddy dont trust them with a computer lol. or simply the fact their mates own the same system and they can all play online together. im sure most console owners are very excited that the next gen use pc architecture.

cue the "but my gtx 690/ 7990 is waaaay faster than the ps4" from all the pc owners who completely misunderstood the statement. yes of course its faster. but you paid 4 or 5 times the price of a ps4 for that rig! lol. a top of the range pc is almost out of date by the time its built so theres no way a console could be cutting edge. even those who just grabbed a gtx titan will be superseded by the newly announced titan II in good time.

what they mean by "pc of the next two or three years" is in comparison to the average pc user not the minority who upgrade every year. the average user only has the equivalent of a gtx 560ti. maybe even slightly less. people are hanging onto their rigs for longer and longer. check the stats on steam to see how many people are still chugging away on ancient gtx 8800s! the ps4 will be better than the majority of current pcs for at least a year or two. then it will match them and then another year or so before it will finally be below the average. it will be a good 4 years before it will be behind the mid range pc rigs.

whether pc fanboys like it or not, the ps4 and xbox 720 are on the way and people will buy them. no amount of whinging and fact reciting will halt that. the good thing is that it raises the bar considerably and pc users will benefit from it.

i wouldnt be surprised if this was more like 12 or 13 hours. they said Bioshock infinite was 15hours... took me at least 20... and its designed to have multiple play throughs to get all the different storylines. id rather have 10 to 15 hours of engrossing gameplay than for them to pad it out to 20+ just so they can get a better dollar per hour ratio. this kind of game is of course going to be shorter than an RPG. you spend a third of your time walking from one area to the next or reading irrelevant stories in books you find. its not a fair comparison.

and never buy a game on day one.. wait a few weeks and itll be almost half the price! i bet a month after this is released you can get it for £20-25.

@GrumpyMcNasty @deadpeasant

its 100% legal to sell on a dvd or cd or bluray (at least in the uk) the warning says no unauthorised copying, editing, exhibition, renting, lending or public performance. nothing about no reselling. when you buy a dvd, cd or bluray its yours. if it was illegal to sell it then the government would have shut down amazon and ebay by now.

@rogerpenna @C4N4D14N_DR34M @lucutisborg thats 187 million total sales not profit! what about everyone else?? SE doesnt get all of that money. The store will take at least 25% then theres taxes - in the uk thats another 20%- then theres delivery, manufacture and packaging costs. (and the console manufacturers charge a fee for every game made, hence the higher console costs) realistically a developer will get about 30% of the game price back, maybe less. so 187million is about 56 million in the pocket of SE.

but youre right, its still early days. noone should expect to recoup their investment in the first month. this game will sell for years and years. and there will no doubt be more DLC to boost profits. im sure tomb raider will generate a tidy profit, not instantly but over time. im sure SE know this, theyve been in the business long enough.

@gufberg @djb1203 yeh its just someone trying to grab headlines. although its more advertising for the game. i can understand the marketing costs. worldwide it would cost in a similar region to a big budget movie, internet, tv, magazines etc. the figure doesnt even make sense. how could they hope to gain a profit on 200 million. if they sell 10 million copys they would have to clear $20 a game.

where the hell does the money go.?

so 200 people over 4 years costs 100 million. so saying they bought them all a snazzy new pc each costing $2000 thats only $400,000. be extra generous and say they bought them one each year... so $1.6million on pcs. so that means theyre paying each person on average $120,000 a year?? lol.
