So I got lucky and got a monster PC. Specs bellow for those interested. Now I'm a competent computer savvy guy and knew my way around ever since I was a kid. But I dropped off the pc gaming scene around 2006 and went the console gaming route for a while, until a just stopped gaming all together because of collage and whatnot. Anyway, now I got this monster PC and I basically just do some serious video editing, programming, work related stuff and school projects. Don't know much about gaming however. I got my old games installed like Halo, Far cry, doom, and half life 2, crysis, gears of war... but I don't know much about games of today that can really push my system. Any suggestions?

Specs: Core i7 4960X @4.6ghz / Asus Rampage IV Black Edition X79 / 32gb Trident X DDR3 / x3 EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified Hydro Copper / 2x 256gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD in RAID 0 & 128gb Samsung 840 Pro /1Tb Hard Drive / Evga Nex1500W Classified PSU / Corsair 900D / ASUS 1440p PB Series 27"

Holy hell those games are old, you must be playing those games thinking to yourself, "Wow, the graphics in PC games aren't as good as I'd thought they'd be." lol

Those are really nice specs

Considering your old games, you are very obviously into first person shooters. And since budget obviously isn't an issue with you, just get the hottest new FPS out there right now, Wolfenstein. Played it on PS4, looks amazing.

It would look even better on your new rig! And it's really fun.

Wassup guys! Ok so we know the definite choice is the PC if you can run it. But what about between the two consoles, which version will have the clear advantage and why?

Watch Dogs on PS4 may have the better resolution and graphical advantage over the One (have these been confirmed?), but I've also heard sites claiming the world might feel more dynamic and alive on the Xbox One because of the Cloud.

So, System Wars let's say you owned both consoles (like I said above this is between the consoles, I know PC is the best). Which version would you purchase Watch Dogs on, and why?

No, PC is not the definite choice.

When you own Watch Dogs on either PS4 or Xbox One you actually own it because you can re-sell it. Whereas with PC, you still cannot re-sell your digital property. Hopefully that will change soon.

PC is not the definite choice. I know your wrong.

And I'd go with PS4.

something that almost everyone ignores as if it was insignificant but it's HUGE. People only want to talk about graphics which are great and of course the PC is the best but it's supposed to be the best if you invest in expensive hardware.

But there is something else that is a huge advantage that is never mentioned here. And that is something that I think is the most important factor that gives the PC a huge advantage over all of the next gen consoles.

That is backwards compatibility. If you own a PC, you can play games all the way back to the original diablo, fallout and even games such as morrowind without any problems.

Not only that, but you never lose your entire software library every few years when a new gen appears. I have over 100 games on steam and it's just awesome that I can go there and play anything I want and now that the next gen is here I can just add next gen games to my library.

With consoles, if you go to the next gen you have to really lose all your previous games because no one is going to have that much hardware connected to their tvs. You're not going to have a 360, X1, PS3, PS4, PS1 and Xbox just to play older games. And I didn't even include the Nintendo consoles.

But even if you did have all those consoles, you would still have to be switching all sorts of disks around on all the consoles to just play those games.

With PC there is no disk swapping, everything is in my hard drive and I can just switch seamlessly between games. Everything is compatible and works just so great.

Oh yea and the graphics are better too.

No you can't, that's stupid.

Playing BladeRunner or Grim Fandango isn't as easy as putting in the disc and you play! You have to run it through Virtual Machine with another key for Windows 95/98. And it doesn't always work smoothly, depending on the game there can be conflicting issues with the drivers and graphic cards.

Yes, you can play retro games, but it's not easy, it takes effort. Whereas if you wanted to Play Final Fantasy 7, just put the disc into the PS1. Easy.

PC is awesome, but consoles are awesome too. Fanboys, however are stupid. Yeah, you fanboys on both sides. Go away.

TF was bundled etc and Xbone actually showed a decrease in sales :/ :/

Makes sense to me, the game wasn't system seller material. It only sold to the unfortunate current owners of Xbone's. I think a DRASTIC price cut is in order.. You can't sell a weak Lotus for 100 grand more than a Ferrari

$300 Kinectless bone perhaps?

If Microsoft quit making it blatantly obvious that they only want short term profits fast.

Offer a Kinect-less bundle, just fucking admit it didnt fucking work already.

Get rid of the Xbox Live paypwall (getting double charged to watch Netflix). Make it easier for indies to self-publish.

Forza 5 (cut the greedy ass microtransactions that are way over the top), Ryse, Dead Rising, Titanfall - Learn from the mistakes and shut up and put up 20 more of those. THAT'S IT!

I'm in the process of building a gaming rig, just started making a list of the components I want and was wondering what should I expect when making the jump from console?

How are the communities for PC gamers? And where are these communities?

Are there any places to meet up with an join clans/teams?

Does it matter what type of keyboard and mouse I use?

Are all PC games controller compatible? If so what type/brand would you recommend?

These are just some of the concerns I have, I'll post more if ever run into trouble.

Go with Intel/Nvidia parts and avoid Windows 8 like the plague. Certain motherboard/parts will force you to run it, avoid them.

I built myself a pc a few years back and it's been great. I haven't been able to stay as up to date on new tech as I'd like so I thought I'd tap into the great wisdom of the Gamespot forums. Anyways, I'd like to spend less than $800 sprucing up the old rig. Here's what I have... 1 TB 7200rpm HDD, 8GB DRR3 1333mhz RAM, Intel i7 @ 3.4Ghz (think its the second gen), Diamond HD 7850 2GB, (all shoved into a micro atx motherboard. I forget the brand and model), power supply is 1000 watts, and I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I need to do a fresh install pretty badly but dont have the disks. So I'll probably need to buy win 8. If you all were me, how would you spend the money? I appreciate any advice!

That's not that outdated browski.

Video card then SSD.

I'm just curious because I read some stuff on other boards saying nobody plays it on the PC. I have it for Xbox One but several friends are on PC's. I just don't want to drop $60 on a game nobody plays.

Yeah, it really should have just been an Xbox One exclusive altogether, like what Halo was for the original Xbox.

Purely predictions.

I'd say it would be superior to the PS3 because it's launch is not as awful. But I'm not quite sure it will beat the impact/legacy/overall quality of the PS2: when gaming was at the perfect sweetspot of budget vs quality.

It will likely be on par with PS1 in terms of impact, though overall quality will be better

It's had a way better launch than PS3 so far.

Better than PS1 also but not as good as PS2.

Hey all, just wondering what your opinion on this topic is.

As far as I know, you need a receipt for any type of warranty reason (please correct me if I'm wrong). I was wondering how risky it would be to purchase a used PS4 without the receipt off craigslist. Most of the people I've talked to have only the box and no receipt.

Do you feel the chance of anything going wrong with the PS4 is slim to none? Is it worth the risk or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one?

Also, before anyone asks, I'm looking to buy used over new right now just because I have a few people willing to sell in the $300 to $325 range. Can't pass that up.

No.
