So recently I got pretty bored with my games and decided to go back to play Far Cry 3, since I read they added a new harder difficulty setting called "Master".
Â
As I started playing I realized it was quite a bit harder, but still I found myself having too much health, too many medkits and far too many chain kill abilities (like knife throws, gun takedowns, and actual chain take downs). I wanted something more like how it would really be to survive on an island, so I simply stopped using some of the games functions to achieve this.
This is what I did:
-No story, just take over outposts
-Master difficulty
-All other settings off (crosshair, tips, etc.)
-No crafting (except for 2 extra gun holsters (3 overall)
-No skill upgrades (Besides regular takedowns and the sprint slide (just cuz its fun)
-No store use (except to get a silencer once you find a pistol)
-Find all guns and bullets from dead soldiers
-No healthkits
This makes the game far more tense and survival based, sometimes you're caught off guard with low amounts of bullets and really forced to make things work.
It also makes me wonder why more games dont go for a survival feel, Far Cry 3 advertised it like that but its more arcade than anything. What did you guys think of the difficulty in FC3? Are there any mods out to adjust it?
Here's a video of me playing the game like this, I don't mean to shamelessly plug my YouTube but it is posted there. Its an easy outpost so it goes pretty smoothly but it just gives an idea of what its like: http://youtu.be/awLylRggKxM
