I agree with most of the replies saying that everything should be good, though an SSD is a huge upgrade in terms of overall snappiness. However, I took a second glance at your specs, and I was wondering: what's up with your ram's timings? I boosted my RAMs frequency a little from 1600MHz to 1799MHz, and its timings are still only 7-8-7-24. I thought 11-11-11-28 was more in line with 1866MHz memory..?

@Wasdie: I'm really curious to see how this holds up when further DX12 games release. So far, AotS is the benchmark that's been used, and it's seen the 290X just peanuts behind the 980 ti. DX11 on the other hand...

Also, I'd like to see more emphasis on the possibility of cross-compatibility, like SLI-fire. For AotS, mixing brands seems to yield better results than either manufacturer's flagship combo. Perhaps we'll be able to start mixing cards to reap the benefits of both venders.

The new Unreal Tournament has some pretty cool movement, like wall running and wall/dodge jumping. This trailer's a pretty good demonstration:

@SpinoRaptor24: I really haven't checked what engine they're using (because I don't care for anything SE develops anymore; I just have some interest in what they publish), but if they're using UE4 like they are for Kingdom Hearts 2.99376, then development should be far easier and much more time efficient than with the trainwreck of an engine that was Luminous.

Episodic remake? First thing that came to mind:

But seriously, they'll have to call the second part "Final Fantasy VII-Remake....2!" and the third part will be "Final Fantasy VII-Remake...3-Cloud Returns."

In my opinion, Escape from Tarkov graphically resembles The Order 1886. Tarkov is just missing the black bars and has greater AF. I like the gritty look and am excited for it, but I do find the hypocricy from some here to be pretty ironic. I understand that Escape from Tarkov is open world and that the Order 1886 is extremely linear, but classifying one as a graphical showpiece and the other as a turd doesn't make much sense. I'm mainly excited for Tarkov because of the physics, such as how explosions influence the environment, rather than the graphics.

I'd say to upgrade something that won't be obsolete in a year or two - something you can hold onto for years. If you have the space, money, and a home without irritable neighbors, I'd suggest upgrading your sound system (assuming it's not already over $600). Or make your gaming/work area more enjoyable by making it easier on the eyes.

I say all this because next year will be such a massive improvement that it might seem a waste to spend $600 on something that may become a paperweight in half a year. I understand your frustration with you 780 and trying 1440p. Try 4K, Blegh! If you're having issues deciding, just wait until something really interests you even if that requires waiting until Christmas next year.

I was able to pick up a 65" 4K Samsung curved television (UN65JU7500) for $1500. That replaced an aging 40" Panasonic plasma (not even 720p, but looks amazing). The Samsung television is now paired with a Denon AVR-1803 hooked up with a set of Technics LX-90s for the front channels, a pair of Epicure 200Cs for the side channels, and a Jamo SUB210. The television has an ARC HDMI input on the One Connect box, so we just use that as the center channel, which sounds surprisingly good. It feels a lot like a movie theater, so I'm very happy with everything!

@gpuking: yeah but achieving above 1080p@60fps on pc is no simple task. I myself have r9 290x which struggles to maintain batman ak,witcher 3,watch dogs and many in 1080p@50fps. And that too with crappy fxaa. With decent AA framerates totally drop.To get 4k you atleast need 3x sli gtx 980ti and if gtx 780 then you need 4 to achieve 4k.

So you pick games featuring Nvidia Gameworks using the ultra presets to claim that your 290X runs games marginally better than a PS4? What's next--using Fallout 4 as an example? It's proprietary software built around CUDA.

Also, I have a 780, and I can run most games at 1080p>50fps with ultra presets, and many over 70fps even at 1920x1200. I have no idea what you're talking about.

EDIT: I just finished playing the new Unreal Tournament, EPIC settings @1200p+TAA, with 10 bots on the super-detailed Titan Pass map. I never dropped below 55fps. The best part is that I upgraded from a 660 (which still beat the PS4) to this 780 for a total of $37 off CL. Mmmmmmm, soooo gooood. Next gen for the price of my old 660+$37. No monthly PS+ subscriptions. Steam, GMG, HumbleBundle deals, etc.

DOUBLE EDIT: Not bashing PS4. It's a decent system in its own right for those who don't want all the hassles of PC gaming or for those looking for the exclusives, but to say that it comes anywhere near a 780 or any equivalent upper mid-range card is complete bollocks.

@BassMan: Lol yeah. I tried to pigeon-toe the towers toward the center as much as I could. If I'm leaning back in my chair enjoying a movie or music, the towers are pointed right at me, but there is literally no more room to angle them. The shelves, desk, and mini fridge are wall-to-wall :-( While gaming, the front channels fire a bit past me.

It's a pretty small room though, so the sounds are very crisp without much amplification, and nothing much is lost. I also have two surround speakers on shelves to the left and right of me that were cut out from the picture, so playing the receiver through 7-channel stereo mitigates the negative effect. :-)
