I suppose stuff like Mirror's Edge and Dying Light count. Just make sure it's first person, and you can move. Like, move move.

For now, I'll go with Titanfall. It's not just player movement that is downright brilliant. It's also Titan movement that is great. All in all, I'd probably say this is the best FPS when it comes to player movement.

I'll also give a shout-out to Halo 5. Haven't played that much of it. Still going through the campaign, but it's fun to use your character's movement and abilities in combat. Gonna know what I prefer once I put that stuff into the multiplayer.

What about you? Share.

For me this one is easy... Metroid Prime

Go from a grapple hook... into a double jump summersault, land and let off a blast... morph into a ball, drop a power bomb and then boost your way to safety.

Yup, Titanfall by far. Its fast, fluid but you always feel in control of what you're doing. Halo 5 is pretty great too.

Probably Quake or Half-Life. The level of control you have lets you be incredibly precise and the physics are very well designed.

Stuff like Halo makes me feel like I'm moving a fridge on an ice rink while CoD feels like you're just a camera bolted onto a trolley.

Agreed, except I prefer the Halo 5 gameplay over TF because of the ground pound....I adore that move and use it constantly.

Half Life 1 doesn't have any character abilities but gameplay and character movement is so fluid. It feels great, to control the character.

I like gameplay of Shadow Warrior as well. Using dodge ability to protect yourself or to get close and personal, feels great. Using dodge and different combinations of sword attacks, makes you feel like a ninja. Sequel looks even better.

This might be a controversial choice according to some, but Killzone 2. The weight coupled with the shooting mechanics made for some excellent gunplay in that game.

May not be the best out there, but Tribes 2 and even the F2P Tribes Ascend has fantastic movement.

Halo 5 has extremely tight controls as well. One of the better ones out there. 343 nailed the movement mechanics.

The new Unreal Tournament has some pretty cool movement, like wall running and wall/dodge jumping. This trailer's a pretty good demonstration:

Tribes and Unreal Tournament for sheer speed, and in the case of Tribes skiing, so good.

Titanfall's parkour is nice and fluid for a mp game, but having to do more in Mirror's Edge as a player to make all that parkour works makes it more inherently gratifying to get the movement down. Recently though I like how you move in Wolfenstein, it's a simple thing, but BJ tends to carry some momentum to his movements. To be fair that studio has always had a good handle on FPS combat stuff and movement since they were Starbreeze.

I liked FEAR's locomotion back in the day, but yeah. Some of the other ones mentioned like Mirror's Edge and Dying Light are also good.

Haven't played Titanfall so Halo 5 it is for me. I played both Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 and they didn't add as much depth as I wanted to the gameplay. It just ended up becoming way more chaotic and annoying to play. At least Halo 5 is balanced with its TTK and AoEs to take advantage of the movement options.

Well, since Titanfall already mentioned a bunch I'll say Descent, that old PC game where you're in a small ship, felt less like a flight game and more like a first person shooter in design from it's tight corridor style, need to hunt for keys, it's shooter nature. The nature and capability of movement really went a long way in some creative level designs.

I'd have to go with titanfall. It absolutely nailed the gameplay but suffered from a lack of content.

Only played it for half an hour but Warframe had some pretty slick moves, shame about it's whole business model.

Other than that Half-Life 2 mechanics are still goat, sorry millenials.

I actually agree. But I didn't want it to be copied by anyone else. I was disappointed KZ3 and SF didn't share it. It doesn't belong in Halo, I don't play COD so who cares, it was a nice KZ type thing and they abandoned it.

No.

The king is still Mirror's Edge. Dropping a perfect speed run is still one of the most satisfying things in gaming history.

It's been said, but TitanFall is easily the best controlling FPS. I'm bad at shooters in general, I mean really crap, but in TitanFall I always felt in control. The wall running is simple, non sticky, and effective, shooting mechanics are slick, titan movement is slick. It is incredibly well polished in all ways.

My personal answer is Metroid Prime, but I've heard nothing but great things about Titanfall. Wanna give that a try eventually.

Was just going to say. Although, the input lag is a thing, but yeah. That game's mechanics were either a fluke, or someone said to hell with all that, Killzone is call of duty now and we're never going back. Reminds me of when dice said they didn't know why people like bad company 2.

Sadly, consoles are synonymous with restricted weapons as to suit a control pads limitations,, replacing intricate level design with simplicity as to avoid potential frustration and removing health management/scavenging in favor of instantaneous health regeneration, removing any requirement for exploration or skill. To an older mature gamer, hunting for keys, ammo, fighting tough enemies and generally being challenged was part of the fun, for the modern gamer, it's part of the problem.
