I'm not even going to take sides in this argument, because I don't work for Sony, therefor would have no credible judgement on the issue. Everyone else here should do the same. Whether we want to admit it or not, only Sony employees are going to know the specifics. Anything else is hearsay.
I very much agree with this. Before video games had major stories--Final Fantasy being an exception--I wasn't very interested in them. After playing RE, TR, FFVII, PE, MGS, SH, etc., I was hooked.
I personally feel that people overreact about this. "What it costs to run the older Xbox 360 vs Xbox Slim for 10, 15, and 20 hours per week FOR A FULL YEAR." The difference averages approximately \$10 per year. Think of how many years it will take for the money saved to surpass the money spent on a new system. It is a big advantage for people who need to replace a broken system, however.
You know what's funny? These arguments remind me of how people interact during the presidential elections. "Obama's better!" "No! McCain is!" "PS3 is better!" "No! Xbox 360 is!" Gamespot should make bumper stickers. "360/Wii 2012".
I understand what you're saying, but compare Halo 1 to Halo 2. Huge jump in graphics. Halo 1 graphics were nothing special. Not bad, just not exceptional, and Halo 2 proved it. Same with Splinter Cell when you compare the big jump it made by Chaos Theory. MGS2, an older game, even had better graphics than Splinter Cell 1.
Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider 1-3, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill 1 & 2, Castlevania: SoTN, Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter, Halo, GTA 3 & Vice City & San Andreas, PoP: The Sands of Time, Xenogears, Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell, Chrono Cross, Indigo Prophecy, RE: Code Veronica, Fable, Guitar Hero 3, Twisted Metal 2, Tekken 2. These are all titles that even in their time didn't have exceptional graphics, but are nevertheless remembered as some of the greatest games of all time. Ironically enough, many of developers of these titles put more effort into graphics for their sequels, but ended up being less favored titles. Graphics are an overrated concept of video games.
