I'm not a fan of Senator Yee, but he certainly makes a good point. I strongly oppose his crusade against video games, as I also oppose crusades against gun ownership, but the NRA is being hypocritical to all of a sudden stand against video games.
I say we start the National Video-game Association (NVA). We can get an actor to represent us, such as Ray Liotta, aka Tommy Vercetti. "You can have this controller when you pry it from my greasy, dead hands."
I'm quite furious at that hypocrite. If anyone was to be defensive of our rights, it would be the NRA. He has the nerve to blame video games. Well then, you know what that means, don't you? If video games are in part to blame, then so are guns. Either he blames both, blames neither--like myself--or he's a hypocrite.
Congrats on the sales, but do we really need to hear this? And so frequently for that matter? This is supposed to be an entertainment web site, and they keep presenting us with numbers like it's the stock market. Quite frankly, I don't directly care how many systems are selling, only what products are coming out for them (games, accessories, new systems, etc.).
I'm more than happy with this. The only aspect that ever annoyed me with the original was the below 30 FPS--what was it at? 15? 20? So I'm more than happy with this re-release. Every other improvement is a bonus in my book.
Although my favorite games are more or less violent, I do agree with this man to a certain extent. Games when I was younger did have plenty of violence, but possessed such with the indirect message that the violence was bad. Nowadays extensive violence is expressed as a necessity. Just compare the original Resident Evil to Resident Evil 5. And don't get me started on the Splinter Cell series.
With how many ideas of games to try we get and give at game stores--or just game sections of general stores--I have trouble believing that games would "fail if not digital-only". Game stores help expand the fan base, and making games digital-only would bring an end to game stores.
@CTBradums Great point. It adds to the question, "is a good remake even possible?" Game producers are even simplifying sequels (Splinter Cell).
I actually don't understand why they still think "dumbed-down" RPGs are necessary. The success of Demon's Souls proved that a "tough" RPG system is still in high demand.
